Cultivation
Úspěšné pěstování ořechokřídlence začíná volbou správného místa. Tento menší keř potřebuje horké slunné místo, proto mu na zahradě dopřejte stanoviště, na které dopadají sluneční paprsky po většinu dne. Sazenici, kterou od nás obdržíte v kontejneru, přesazujte výhradně do propustné půdy, ideálně pokud je přirozeně písčitá či hlinitá. Na bohatou výživu si rostlina nepotrpí, naopak humózní půdy plné živin jejímu zdraví spíše škodí. Pro správný růst vysazujte rostliny do sponu 80 cm od sebe. V praxi tak umístíte na jeden metr čtvereční pouze 1 až 2 sazenice.
Zákazníci se často ptají, jak ořechokřídlec pěstovat v květináči. Nádoba by měla mít objem alespoň 10 litrů a v její spodní části musí být připravena propustná drenáž z keramzitu nebo štěrku. Jak na záhoně, tak v nádobě platí, že ořechokřídlec vyžaduje spíše sucho. Výrazněji zalévejte pouze mladou sazenici po výsadbě, dokud se plně neuchytí. Později rostlina bez potíží zvládá letní sucha. Co se týče hnojiv, uplatňuje se pravidlo méně je více, protože nadměrné hnojení naopak násadu květů snižuje. Jistě vás také potěší skutečnost, že se jedná o rostlinu zcela bez chorob a škůdců.
Během celoroční údržby nezapomínejte na mrazuvzdornost a správný střih. Rostlina zvládne pokles teplot až k -23 °C. Přes zimu se ale přesto doporučuje lehká zimní ochrana, nejlépe vrstvou suchého listí či chvojím, kterou ocení zejména rostliny z podzimní výsadby. Pro zachování vitality dodržujte následující postup:
- Nezkracujte větvičky před zimou, mají krásný zimní efekt i pod sněhem.
- Jarním řezem podpoříte rašení nových výhonů, na kterých keř posléze bohatě kvete.
- Stříhejte hluboko, klidně až na 15 centimetrů nad zemí.
- Ustřižené větvičky s květy z konce léta jsou vynikající na řez do váz i pro sušení do trvanlivých aranžmá.

Ořechokřídlec Hint of Gold rozzáří zahradu v době, kdy většina trvalek již odkvétá. Tento opadavý polokeř je ceněný především pro své netradiční zbarvení listů, které raší ve svítivě žlutých tónech a postupně přecházejí do jemné žlutozelené. Vytváří tak dokonalý a svěží kontrast k sytě modrofialovým květům, jež se na rostlině objevují od srpna až do října. Celá rostlina je silně aromatická a při doteku uvolňuje příjemnou kořenitou vůni, která připomíná směs bylinek, jehličí a pryskyřice. Díky svému kompaktnímu vzrůstu kolem 60 až 90 centimetrů se skvěle hodí do nižších keřových skupin nebo jako solitér do trvalkových záhonů, kde na sebe zaručeně strhne pozornost.
Původní druhy ořechokřídleců pocházejí ze suchých a slunných stepních oblastí východní Asie, což předurčuje jejich nároky i v našich zahradách. Vyžadují plné slunce a velmi dobře propustnou, klidně i kamenitou či písčitou půdu, nesnáší totiž přemokření, zejména v zimních měsících. Hint of Gold je mrazuvzdorný, přesto je vhodné ho na zimu u kořenů mírně přikrýt chvojím. Na jaře je potřeba provést hlubší zpětný řez, který podpoří hustotu keře a bohatou násadu květů na nových výhonech. Květy jsou doslova magnetem pro včely, čmeláky a další opylovače, pro které představují cenný zdroj nektaru v pozdním létě. Větvičky lze použít i k řezu do vázy, kde svou vůní a netradiční barevnou kombinací listu a květu zpestří každou podzimní kytici.
