Burnet-saxifrage Rosea

Agastache rugosa comes from regions of China and Japan. Its toothed leaves resemble nettle leaves but do not sting, and when rubbed between fingers, they release a minty-anise fragrance. It is a stable, upright growing plant. Hardy and robust, it successfully handles our winters too. Interesting for cutting even after flowering. It lasts 7 days in a vase. Black Adder is a stout and, with its dark color, strikingly contrasting cultivar with a very long flowering period.

Geums are charming spring perennials with adorable cup-shaped flowers in warm shades. The flowers grow on long, branching stems. The petals are often ruffled, and the flowers semi-double. Their clump-forming foliage is also interesting, eventually creating good ground cover. Flowering Geums are a major attraction for insects, especially butterflies. A verbena species originally from South America. In our country, it is often used as an annual, but in mild winters it can overwinter and reproduce by self-seeding. The firm, airy stems beautifully soften perennial beds and make them special with their purple color. It beautifully complements steppe plantings with grasses and rose beds.

Geums are cute spring perennials with adorable cup-shaped flowers in warm color shades. Flowers grow on long branched stems. Petals are usually ruffled, flowers semi-double. Anemones come from the same family as buttercups. With their elegant flowers on long slender stems, they can enliven and brighten up late summer and autumn flowerbeds. They stand out against the darker background of shrub groups and will also appreciate their partial shade. The Czech Perennial Association chose autumn anemones as the perennial of the season for 2022. They last 7 days in a vase. Andrea Atkinson is a tender cultivar of autumn anemone with white petals.

A beautiful, though rather short-lived perennial, ideal for steppe areas together with delicate drought-loving grasses and perennials. Harvest for bouquets as soon as approximately half of the flowers in the inflorescence are open. It lasts about 5 days in a vase. An exceptional cultivar with flowers in peach and apricot tones, which fade to an elegant antique pink as they finish blooming.

This perennial scabiosa grows wild on mountain meadows and rocky slopes of the Caucasus, northern Iran, and Turkey. In gardens, it is grown for its charming large saucer-shaped flowers. It has strong long stems, making it a perfect perennial for cutting. It is best harvested while the central florets are still firmly closed; it then lasts up to 10 days in a vase. The seed heads are also very useful and can be dried. Fama Deep Blue has violet-blue flowers.

Pycnanthemum muticum impresses with its silvery-white colored bracts growing beneath the less conspicuous inflorescence. It grows to a height of 70–110 cm. On sunny days, the leaves in particular are strongly aromatic. The flowers attract pollinators. A great green addition to bouquets.

Dropwort is a drought-loving native perennial that naturally handles very dry sites thanks to its tuberous, thickened roots. It forms rosettes of finely cut leaves. Its fragrant, milky-white inflorescences are floristically valuable. The buds, which look like tiny pearls, are interesting, as is the post-blooming stage in the form of small stars. It lasts a week in a vase.

The flowers resemble wild roses but are slightly smaller and deeper pink. The color intensity fades towards the center of the flower, highlighting the charmingly wavy edges of the petals. The small spherical rose hips are fresh red on long and upright, almost thornless shoots. They have perfect durability. The leaves are matte green.

Phlox, also known as garden phlox, is originally a perennial native to North America. It soon achieved great popularity in European gardens and has been systematically bred since the 19th century. It is a classic perennial for cutting into bouquets, where, in addition to colorful flowers, it also delights with a gentle fragrance. We harvest as soon as roughly half of the flowers in the inflorescence have bloomed; then it lasts up to 10 days in a vase. Despite efforts to breed the most resistant cultivars possible, it remains true that phlox reacts extremely sensitively to climate and soil conditions, so we pay careful attention to the correct choice of location. Nora Leight attracts attention with creamy variegated leaves, which complement the delicate pinkish-white flowers with a darker eye. Thanks to the light foliage, it can brighten up darker corners of the garden.

Pycnanthemum pilosum grows naturally in prairies, meadows, and along riverbanks. Its branched stems and flower heads resemble Monarda. The entire plant appears grey-green due to its dense hairiness. The leaves are fragrant when crushed. In garden beds, its greyish hue naturally ties together the colors of other perennials.
