Šalvěj lékařská Nazareth je nenáročná trvalka, kterou obdržíte jako již vzrostlou sazenici. Pro úspěšné pěstování je naprosto klíčový výběr stanoviště. Této bylince se nejlépe daří na horkém, plně slunném místě. Půda by měla být spíše chudá, propustná a ideálně písčitá nebo štěrkovitá. Těžké a zamokřené půdy šalvěji nesvědčí, protože kořeny snadno uhnívají. Sazenice vysazujte na vzdálenost zhruba 40 centimetrů od sebe, což zajistí dostatečnou cirkulaci vzduchu a podpoří zdravý růst. Zálivku vyžaduje pouze po výsadbě, než dobře zakoření. Později si bez problémů poradí i s delším obdobím sucha. Během sezóny šalvěj nevyžaduje žádné složité zásahy, netrpí na choroby a vyhýbají se jí i běžní škůdci. Pokud ji pěstujete primárně pro kulinářské využití a chcete dosáhnout maximálního obsahu aromatických látek s tóny marcipánu, doporučujeme tvořící se květy včas odstraňovat. Kvetení totiž rostlinu zbytečně vysiluje. Pokud květy ponecháte, přilákají do zahrady spoustu včel a motýlů a můžete je využít k řezu. Důležitým krokem v péči je jarní zpětný řez. Provádějte ho až po uplynutí silných mrazů, rostlinu zkraťte zhruba na polovinu. Tím podpoříte její vitalitu, zhoustnutí keříku a zabráníte dřevnatění odspodu. Do starého dřeva bez listů ale neřezejte, rostlina by už nemusela obrazit. Rostlina je plně mrazuvzdorná až do minus 23 stupňů, takže naši zimu zvládne bez potíží. Největším nepřítelem v zimním období není mráz, ale nadměrné vlhko. Proto dbejte na to, aby v místě výsadby nezůstávala stát voda. Tato bylinka se také skvěle hodí pro pěstování v nádobách nebo prostorných truhlících na balkonech a terasách. Při výsadbě do květináče nezapomeňte na dno umístit silnou drenážní vrstvu ze štěrku nebo keramzitu a použijte lehký substrát smíchaný s pískem. Hnojení není nutné, příliš mnoho živin by vedlo k měkkým výhonům, které hůře přezimují a mají slabší aroma.
