Because of this, it is exceptionally resilient, easily handling frosts down to minus forty degrees, and can do without complex care. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you just need to transplant to a sunny location with well-drained loamy soil. The cultivar Royal Wedding will reward you in May and June with huge bowl-shaped flowers with pure white petals, which hide a distinct dark burgundy spot in their center. Moreover, these enchanting flowers reliably attract pollinators from far and wide. It is typical for Oriental poppies that their strikingly fuzzy green leaves die back soon after flowering. The plant takes a break over the warmest summer to gather strength, and a smaller portion of the leaves often sprouts again only at the end of summer. Therefore, it is ideal to plant the poppy in the flower bed in close proximity to other perennials that sprout slightly later and naturally fill the empty space left by the resting poppy. It avoids diseases and needs no support, reaching a height of around sixty to eighty centimeters. Just watch out for field voles, which might develop a taste for its fleshy roots. Otherwise, it is a long-lived plant that even a complete beginner can handle without worries. Given that the plant is poisonous, it is naturally not intended for consumption. The giant white flowers are also a great attraction for lovers of cut flowers, although they require a little trick. Similar to other poppies, the stems need to be harvested exactly at the moment when the buds begin to color and slightly crack. Right after cutting, we sear the ends of the stems with a flame for about twenty seconds to prevent sap leakage, and then we put them into cold water. Thanks to this procedure, they will stay beautiful for about four days in a vase and add amazing lightness to bouquets. Although these delicate flowers are not suitable for drying, they simply have no competition in fresh spring bouquets.

Pro pěstování šateru 'Perfecta' je absolutním základem výběr správného stanoviště, protože tato rostlina má silný kůlovitý kořen, který nesnáší přesazování. Vyberte pro ni plně osluněné místo, kde se bude moci vyhřívat po celý den. Půda musí být výborně propustná, spíše suchá, písčitá až kamenitá. Pokud máte na zahradě těžkou jílovitou půdu, je nezbytné ji před výsadbou sazenice vylepšit přidáním štěrku nebo hrubého písku, aby voda rychle odtékala. Šater je totiž citlivý na zimní vlhko – zatímco mráz mu nevadí (zvládá teploty až k -34 °C), v mokré zemi by mu mohly uhnít kořeny. Sazenici sázejte tak, aby kořenový krček zůstal těsně nad úrovní terénu, a dodržujte rozestup alespoň 70 cm, jelikož se rostlina časem rozroste do šířky.
Během sezóny je péče o tuto trvalku velmi snadná a zvládne ji i úplný začátečník. Po výsadbě sazenici zalévejte, dokud dobře nezakoření, ale dospělá rostlina je na vláhu velmi nenáročná a zvládá i delší období sucha bez dodatečné zálivky. S hnojením to nepřehánějte; v příliš výživné půdě by stonky rostly bujně, ale byly by slabé a lámavé. Stačí na jaře přidat trochu kompostu nebo vápenaté drti, protože šater miluje vápník. Obrovskou výhodou je, že kultivar 'Perfecta' netrpí na škůdce ani choroby, takže se nemusíte obávat mšic ani plísní, pokud zajistíte dobrou cirkulaci vzduchu.
Pokud chcete využít šater do vázaných kytic nebo na sušení, řežte stonky v době, kdy je většina drobných květů otevřená. Po odkvětu, obvykle na konci léta, můžete celou rostlinu sestřihnout zhruba o třetinu až polovinu. Tento krok často podpoří rostlinu k menšímu druhému kvetení na podzim a zároveň udrží trs kompaktní. Na zimu není potřeba žádná speciální ochrana chvojím, pokud je půda dostatečně propustná. Jen pamatujte, že celá rostlina je mírně jedovatá, proto při manipulaci a střihu doporučujeme používat zahradní rukavice.
Pěstování v nádobách je možné, ale vyžaduje specifický přístup. Vzhledem k hlubokému kořenovému systému potřebuje šater opravdu hluboký květináč, nikoliv mělký truhlík. Na dno nádoby dejte silnou vrstvu drenáže (keramzit, kamínky) a použijte substrát smíchaný s pískem v poměru 1:1. V nádobě bude rostlina náchylnější na vyschnutí než ve volné půdě, takže zálivku kontrolujte, ale nikdy nenechávejte stát vodu v podmisce. I v nádobě vám vytvoří onen pověstný bílý obláček, který krásně ozdobí slunné terasy či balkony.
