The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

Tento pestrý mix narcisů k vám přichází v podobě již zapěstovaných sazenic, což je obrovská výhoda oproti klasické výsadbě cibulí na podzim. Rostliny mají vyvinutý kořenový systém, takže je můžete ihned po doručení vysadit na trvalé stanoviště, kde okamžitě rozzáří prostor. Pro úspěšné pěstování vyberte místo na přímém slunci nebo v mírném polostínu. Narcisy nejsou příliš náročné na typ půdy, ale nejlépe se jim daří v běžné zahradní zemině, která je hlinitá, humózní a především dobře propustná. Pokud máte na zahradě těžkou jílovitou půdu, doporučujeme ji před výsadbou vylepšit přimícháním písku nebo kompostu, aby se zajistil odtok přebytečné vody. Zamokření by totiž mohlo vést k uhnívání cibulí pod zemí.
Samotná výsadba sazenic je velmi intuitivní. Rostliny sázejte tak hluboko, jak rostly v původním kontejneru, a dodržujte spon zhruba 10 až 15 centimetrů mezi jednotlivými kusy. Pokud chcete vytvořit hustý barevný koberec, počítejte přibližně s 50 rostlinami na metr čtvereční. Ihned po výsadbě záhon důkladně zalijte. V průběhu jara, kdy rostliny aktivně rostou a kvetou, udržujte půdu mírně vlhkou (zálivka zhruba 💧💧), ale ne přemokřenou. Jakmile narcisy odkvetou a začnou se připravovat na letní odpočinek, zálivku postupně omezte. Velkou výhodou tohoto mixu je jeho naprostá odolnost – netrpí na choroby ani škůdce, takže se nemusíte obávat nutnosti chemických postřiků.
Klíčovým momentem péče o narcisy je období po odkvětu. Uváděná výška 30–50 cm předurčuje tyto květiny i k řezu do vázy, kde provoní váš domov. Pokud květy neřezáte, odstraňte je hned po zavadnutí (uštízněte semeník pod květem), aby se rostlina nevysilovala tvorbou semen. Naprosto zásadní je však ponechat zelené listy na rostlině taklouho, dokud samy nezežloutnou a neuschnou. Listy totiž po odkvětu sbírají energii ze slunce a ukládají ji zpět do cibule pro kvetení v příštím roce. Pokud byste listy ostříhali příliš brzy, příští rok byste se květů nemuseli dočkat. V této fázi je vhodné rostliny přihnojit hnojivem s vyšším obsahem draslíku a fosforu pro podporu vyzrávání cibulí.
Tento mix narcisů je také vynikající volbou pro pěstování v nádobách a truhlíkách na balkonech či terasách. Při výsadbě do květináče dbejte na to, aby nádoba měla odtokové otvory a na dně byla vrstva drenáže (např. keramzit nebo štěrk). Použijte kvalitní substrát pro balkonové rostliny. Protože jde o plně mrazuvzdorné trvalky (zóna 4a, až do -34 °C), v záhonech nepotřebují na zimu žádnou speciální ochranu. U rostlin v nádobách je však kořenový systém více vystaven mrazu, proto doporučujeme nádoby na zimu obalit jutou nebo polystyrenem, případně je zapustit do země, aby substrát nepromrzl skrz naskrz.
