Azurea does honor to its name, bringing a heavenly blue color to spring days that gradually changes into purple tones. It is a lungwort cultivar that occurs naturally in moist mountain meadows and in bright forests. In the garden, it requires similar conditions, i.e., a partially shaded to shady location with well-draining, humus-rich, and constantly slightly moist soil. It grows to a height of around 20 to 30 centimeters and forms neat clumps that spread slightly over time. Its lanceolate leaves are purely green, lacking the mottling of common lungworts, which can be an advantage for calmer compositions in the undergrowth of woody plants. This long-lived perennial is an ideal choice for beginners because it does not suffer from diseases or pests and excellently handles even severe frosts. Although it is not suitable for cutting into a vase or for drying, it will do its job right in the garden bed, where it attracts beneficial insects. After the spring bloom, the plant partially dies back to create new foliage for the rest of the season. Because the summer foliage is not usually as dense, we recommend planting Azurea in small groups or mixing it with small spring bulbs and grasses, which will ensure a season-long effect.

Phlox is originally a perennial native to North America. It soon achieved great popularity in European gardens and has been systematically bred since the 19th century. It is a classic perennial for cutting into bouquets, where, in addition to colorful flowers, it also delights with a gentle fragrance. We harvest as soon as roughly half the flowers in the inflorescence have bloomed; then they last up to 10 days in a vase. Despite efforts to breed the most resistant cultivars, it remains true that Phlox reacts extremely sensitively to climate and soil conditions, so we carefully pay attention to the correct choice of site. Pro úspěšné pěstování plicníku Azurea je naprosto klíčový výběr správného stanoviště. Tato trvalka je původem z lesních podrostů, a proto na vaší zahradě uvítá polostinné až stinné místo, ideálně pod korunami listnatých stromů nebo v blízkosti keřů, které jí poskytnou ochranu před ostrým poledním sluncem. Půda by měla být hlinitá, propustná a bohatá na humus. Protože obdržíte již zakořeněné sazenice, můžete je vysazovat prakticky kdykoliv během vegetační sezóny, pokud nemrzne, ale nejlepší je jaro nebo časný podzim. Při výsadbě doporučujeme do jámy přimíchat vyzrálý kompost nebo listovku, což rostlině zajistí potřebné živiny a pomůže půdě zadržovat vlhkost, kterou tento kultivar miluje. Dodržujte doporučený spon 30 cm, aby měly rostliny dostatek prostoru, ale zároveň se časem zapojily do souvislého porostu.
Péče o tuto rostlinu je snadná i pro začátečníky, vyžaduje však pochopení jejího životního cyklu. Plicník potřebuje pravidelnou zálivku, a to nejen na jaře v době květu, ale zejména v létě. Substrát by měl být stále mírně vlhký, nikoliv však přemokřený. Specifikem plicníků je, že po jarním odkvětu (březen–duben) se rostlina může částečně "zatáhnout" a nevypadá příliš vábně. V tuto chvíli je ideální čas pro zpětný řez – nebojte se odstranit odkvetlé stonky a staré listy nízko nad zemí. Tento zásah podpoří tvorbu nových, svěžích letních listů, které budou zdobit záhon až do zimy. Rostlina je navíc velmi odolná, netrpí na choroby ani na běžné škůdce, takže se nemusíte bát nájezdů slimáků, kteří se jí obvykle vyhýbají.
Pokud zvažujete pěstování v nádobách, je to možné, ale vyžaduje to zvýšenou pozornost. Květináč musí být dostatečně velký a musí mít na dně drenážní otvory. Protože v nádobách zemina vysychá mnohem rychleji než ve volné půdě, budete muset plicník zalévat častěji, v horkých dnech i denně.
