Goat's beard Opulenz

Goatsbeard 'Opulenz' represents an ideal choice for livening up the shadier corners of the garden, where it will form a dense and compact mound. This tiny perennial, originally from Korea, is actually a miniature version of our native standard goatsbeard. It grows to a height of only 20 to 30 centimeters and stands out with its finely divided, fern-like leaves, which form a fresh green undergrowth. In May and June, airy panicles of tiny creamy-white flowers, resembling astilbes, rise above the leaves. A great advantage of this undemanding plant is its all-season effect. After blooming, it decorates the flower bed with its interesting structure, and in autumn, its leaves turn beautiful shades of bronze to orange-red. It loves humous and moister soil in partial shade, so it fits perfectly on the edges of beds, in shady rockeries, or as an underplanting beneath shrubs and trees. It is fully frost-hardy and does not suffer from pests or diseases. The inflorescences can also be used in smaller bouquets, adding lightness and elegance. Show full description

Stokes' aster Klaus Jelitto, Loukykvět

Stokesia laevis

Stokesia originates from the southeastern part of North America, where it naturally grows in light pine forests on well-drained soils. In our conditions, it will thrive in a sunny, warm spot and in the company of drought-loving perennials. Growing in containers could also be an advantage, as we can better protect them from excessive moisture in winter. The large, striking flowers resemble cornflowers and are suitable for cutting. A cultivar with powder-blue flowers.

Salvia Feathers Flamingo, Loukykvět

Salvia hybrida

The Feathers series, which includes the Flamingo cultivar, represents a small breakthrough in sage breeding, primarily thanks to its unique, deeply cut leaves. Thus, this sage acts decoratively with its structure in flower beds even before the first buds appear. As the name Flamingo suggests, the flowers have a beautiful pink shade and bloom on the plant in large numbers throughout the summer. The original botanical species of sage come from dry and sunny steppe regions, and this garden beauty also retains a love for the sun and well-drained soils. It cannot stand waterlogging, but it handles summer droughts and poorer habitats excellently. In a garden composition, it stands out in group plantings on the front edge of perennial borders or in modern gravel beds. Its aromatic leaves and nectar-filled flowers attract beneficial insects, so the garden literally comes alive with it. If you cut back the spent inflorescences, you will promote the density of the clump, and the plant often reblooms, flowering again at the end of summer. Thanks to its resilience and frost hardiness down to -28 °C, it is a reliable component of Czech gardens. The flowers can also be used in a vase, where they form a delicate, romantic element.

Goat's beard Bronze, Loukykvět
New

Aruncus aethusifolius

Goatsbeard 'Bronze' is a small gem for shady corners that you will fall in love with for its changeable coloring and fine texture. This tiny perennial originally comes from Korean mountain slopes and rocky stream banks, where it naturally seeks out moister and cooler places. Unlike its massive relative, the standard goatsbeard, it grows to very compact dimensions, resembling more of a finely cut fern or a miniature astilbe. In the garden, it is perfectly suited as an underplanting beneath trees and shrubs, in rockeries located in partial shade, or as an elegant border for shady beds. Thanks to its low growth and dense habit, it works excellently as a groundcover plant that reliably suppresses weeds and keeps the soil moist. The 'Bronze' cultivar truly lives up to its name, especially in spring and autumn, when its finely divided leaves turn into gorgeous bronze and reddish hues. In summer, the color changes to deep green, forming a perfect dark background for the creamy-white inflorescences. These fluffy panicles appear in June and July, bringing lightness and airiness to the planting with their structure. The flowers are also suitable for cutting into smaller vases, where they stay fresh for several days and add a gentle touch to arrangements. It is an exceptionally undemanding and frost-hardy perennial that does not suffer from diseases or pests, making it an ideal choice even for novice growers who want to liven up the shady parts of their garden.

Phlox 'White Perfume' will delight anyone who cannot wait for the typical scent of tall summer phloxes but doesn't want to wait until the holidays. This petite spring perennial originally comes from the light forests of North America, where it forms a natural undergrowth. Thanks to this, it is perfectly suited for partial shade locations in gardens, ideally under taller shrubs or trees, where it can form looser carpet-like growth. Loosestrife Swirl, Loukykvět

Lythrum virgatum

'Swirl' is a profusely flowering cultivar of wand loosestrife that will bring lightness and elegance to your garden. Compared to the common purple loosestrife, it has much airier inflorescences and a more slender habit, so it doesn't spread as much in flower beds. It grows to a height of about one meter and adorns the garden with its purplish-pink flowers all summer long. Although its natural home is in moister habitats, it is surprisingly tolerant to drier conditions compared to other species. This makes it a versatile plant that you can place both near water features and in mixed perennial plantings, where it beautifully complements grasses or other moisture-loving perennials. In addition to summer flowering, the loosestrife will delight you even at the end of the season. Its smooth and narrow leaves turn striking shades of red in the autumn, creating an interesting contrast to fading plants. It is an ideal choice for beginners because it requires no support, does not suffer from diseases, and is fully frost-resistant. If you like to create bouquets, don't hesitate to cut a few stems for a vase; they look very natural and wild in floral decorations. The plant is also a great attraction for bees and butterflies, providing them with plenty of nectar.

Red Valerian Rosato Rose Pink, Loukykvět

Centranthus ruber

The 'Rosato Rose Pink' valerian is a richly flowering perennial whose original homeland is the sunny and warm Mediterranean. Brunnera macrophylla, Loukykvět

Brunnera macrophylla

The largeleaf brunnera comes from the moist mountain forests of the Caucasus, where it forms dense undergrowth. It is an ideal perennial for shady and semi-shady corners of your garden, where it will thrive in humus-rich, moist soil. It resembles classic forget-me-nots in appearance, but don't be fooled, its leaves are much larger, heart-shaped, and rough to the touch. Thanks to them, it acts as a great groundcover plant that sprouts early in the spring and reliably covers bare soil with its leaves until late autumn. It thus forms a natural contrasting background for the delicate, tiny flowers. Tiny sky-blue flowers appear in April, May, and June, creating a beautiful delicate veil over the green carpet of leaves. The flower clusters are also suitable for cutting into spring hand-tied bouquets, where they look very tender. Just watch out for snails and slugs, who like to feast on the juicy leaves of the brunnera, so it's a good idea to check the plants regularly. It is a long-lived and hardy perennial that handles severe frosts without problems and will bring you joy in one place for many years.

Bleeding Heart, Loukykvět

Dicentra spectabilis

The original home of bleeding hearts is Korea and China, where they grow in light deciduous forests. They are classic garden perennials. They will look perfect in nostalgically styled flower beds; the white variant fits well even into naturalistic woodland gardens. They are popular for their heart-shaped flowers hanging on horizontal or arching stems. These weaken and die back some time after flowering; all the plant's energy then concentrates in the roots, and at that moment, we can cut the above-ground part back completely. For the rest of the year, we won't even know the bleeding heart is in the garden. It will remind us of its charm again in the spring. Perfect vase life, at least 7 days. Harvest when the first 3–4 flowers open on the stem. The basic species has pink-white flowers. In spring, the sprouting shoots have a pink tinge.

Cultivation

Výsadba a celoroční péče

Pěstování v květináči a zimování

Z hlediska mrazuvzdornosti je rostlina extrémně odolná (zóna 4a, snese až -34 °C) a v zemi bez problémů přečká i tuhé zimy bez zakrývání. U rostlin v nádobách je však vhodné na zimu květináč obalit jutou nebo polystyrenem, neboť mráz působí na kořeny ze všech stran intenzivněji než v půdě.

Aruncus aethusifolius

Goatsbeard 'Charakter' is a cute miniature of its better-known and much larger relative, the standard goatsbeard. In May and June, airy panicles of creamy-white flowers appear above the compact clump of fresh green leaves. Thanks to its low growth, it is an ideal choice for shady rockeries, bed borders, or as an underplanting beneath taller shrubs, where it reliably suppresses weeds. It is an absolutely undemanding plant suitable even for novice growers, free from pests, and excellently handles even severe frosts. Its inflorescences can be used in small arrangements and retain their shape after drying, making them perfect for dry binding as well. In autumn, it will additionally delight you when its leaves turn beautiful orange to red shades.

New

Aruncus aethusifolius

Goatsbeard 'Elegance' is a smaller relative of its spectacular sister, the standard goatsbeard, and comes from the moist forests of Korea. The fresh green, finely divided leaves form low mounds, above which airy panicles of creamy-white flowers rise in May and June. It is an ideal plant for shady and semi-shady corners, where the soil does not dry out and remains moist and humous. Thanks to its low growth, it is perfectly suited for the edges of flower beds, shady rockeries, or even containers on north-facing terraces.
