Catananche caerulea

Eastern Bluestar

Catananche caerulea, also known as Cupid's dart, is a charming plant that will win you over with its lightness and airiness. Its scientific name refers to old Greek legends, according to which it was used in love potions; today, however, you will appreciate it more for its undemanding nature and unique appearance. It is perfectly suited for natural-style gardens, gravel beds, and drought-tolerant plantings, where it beautifully complements other perennials or ornamental grasses. It grows to a height of up to ninety centimeters and, despite its height, needs no support. The flowers are lavender blue with a darker center and toothed petals at the ends. They bloom gradually from June to September. Cupid's dart loves drought and heat; conversely, it does not tolerate winter dampness, which harms it more than frost. If you provide it with a well-drained location, it can survive temperatures down to -18 °C. It is a rewarding plant for beginner growers and experienced florists alike. Fresh flowers last a week in a vase, but you will get the most joy from dried ones. Harvest them fully open in dry weather and hang them upside down. They will keep their shape and remind you of summer all winter long. Show full description

Avens Tempest Scarlet, Loukykvět

Geum chiloense

Avens Tempest Scarlet brings a flood of vibrant colors and spring freshness to the garden. The original species of avens grow in moister but well-drained meadows and light forest edges, which is why they thrive best here in sun or partial shade in humus-rich loamy soil. You will receive an already rooted seedling in a pot from us, which you can easily transplant straight to your chosen spot. Avens are generally very undemanding plants, do not need any support, and effortlessly withstand frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees. The Tempest Scarlet cultivar was bred in Scotland and stands out with the deep scarlet color of its semi-double, slightly ruffled flowers, which bloom on long branched stems from May to July. After a summer break, it will often delight you with another blooming in the autumn. With its clumping growth, it will eventually form a nice ground cover, and its flowers attract bees and butterflies. It is an excellent perennial for mixed flowerbeds as well as for cutting. We harvest the stems for bouquets as soon as about a quarter to half of the flowers are open. It will stay beautiful in a vase for about seven days, but it is not suitable for drying. Common pests and diseases avoid it, making it an ideal choice for complete beginners.

Lesser Calamint, Loukykvět
New

Calamintha nepeta ssp. nepeta

An undemanding and modest perennial that blooms with a large number of tiny flowers. It blooms for a record-breaking long time throughout late summer and autumn. It forms smaller, compact, airy bushes that emit a minty, spicy fragrance. Thyme-like flowers attract bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It will look good among roses as well as in naturalistic steppe flowerbeds, perhaps with lower grasses. This calamint is overall more vigorous. It differs from other calamints with downy leaves by its record length of flowering, stiff and shiny leaves, and also a larger number of flowers that do not form seeds and are therefore extremely long-lasting. It is sometimes sold under the cultivar name 'Triumphator'.

Fleabane Blütenmeer, Loukykvět
New

Erigeron karvinskianus

Fleabane Blütenmeer is an ethereal, short-lived perennial that came to us all the way from Mexico, bringing unbridled lightness to European gardens. It looks like a flood of tiny daisies that gradually change color from pure white to soft pink, so you will see a diverse palette of shades on a single plant simultaneously. It is perfectly suited for growing on sunny rockeries, in dry stone walls, or even in containers, where it forms profusely blooming cushions. Although it is a short-lived plant, in well-drained soil it often maintains itself through self-seeding, so you will enjoy its beauty in the garden repeatedly. Moreover, the flowers tirelessly attract bees and other pollinators from early summer until the first frosts. You can also harvest them for tiny vases, where their delicate little flowers will complement the atmosphere of your home.

Wild Strawberry, Loukykvět
New

Fragaria vesca

Wild strawberry brings the magic of forest glades and sunny clearings to the garden, where it naturally occurs across all of Europe and northern Asia. This tiny but perennial herb is prized primarily for its incredibly aromatic fruits, which may not compete with cultivated garden strawberries in size, but easily surpass them in their intense flavor and aroma. The plant forms low cushions of deep green trifoliate leaves, and from April to June, it is decorated with tiny, pure white flowers that are an irresistible attraction for bees and other pollinators. Thanks to its undemanding nature and frost resistance down to -35 °C, it is an ideal choice even for beginner growers. In the garden, wild strawberry serves perfectly as a groundcover perennial that spreads quickly via long runners and can effectively suppress weeds. It thrives best in sun or partial shade, where it has access to humus-rich and slightly moist soil, exactly what it would find in the undergrowth of light deciduous forests. It is suitable for natural corners of the garden, under shrubs, or as edging for flowerbeds, where you can pick a sweet reward at any time. Although you won't use it much for cutting into a vase or for drying, its value lies in its living beauty and edible fruits, which ripen gradually and offer the purest taste of nature right in your home.

Mexican Feather Grass Pony Tails, Loukykvět
New

Stipa tenuissima

Feather grass flowers attract attention in flowerbeds and bouquets with their lightness and delicacy. All feather grasses love full sun and dry, stony, well-drained soil. To look as natural as possible in flowerbeds, it is good to plant them in several pieces in loose groups together with other drought-loving perennials and bulbs. Only then will their stems and inflorescences, set in motion by the slightest breath of wind, stand out. Feather grass Ponny Tails is a species originally from the steppes of Mexico, Texas, and Patagonia. Airy dense tufts of hair-like fine leaves resemble horsehair. The leaves are green, turning up to straw-colored towards the flowers. In a suitable location, it even self-seeds.

Salvia Nachtvlinder, Loukykvět

Salvia gregii

Sage 'Nachtvlinder' is a true jewel among portable container plants, which will win you over with its unusual color and endurance. The original species *Salvia greggii* comes from the sunny and dry semi-desert regions of Texas and Mexico, where it grows on rocky and poor soils. Thanks to this, it is very undemanding regarding watering here as well and loves full sun. In our conditions, we most often grow it as a portable plant in pots on terraces or balconies, because its frost resistance reaches only -12 °C. For the winter, we therefore recommend hiding it in a frost-free bright place, or carefully covering it in the warmest regions of the country. The 'Nachtvlinder' variety, whose name translates as night moth, will enchant you with velvety flowers in a deep shade of plum purple. Its huge advantage is the incredibly long flowering period, which starts in May and often ends only with the arrival of stronger frosts in November. The entire plant is strongly aromatic and releases a pleasant spicy scent when touched. Furthermore, the flowers are edible and sweet, so they are perfectly suited as an unconventional garnish for summer salads or desserts. It will also attract a large number of bees and other beneficial insects to your garden.

Hollyhock Chaters Chamois, Loukykvět
New

Alcea rosea plena

Hollyhocks are a must-have for every lover of a rustic atmosphere. We traditionally associate them with sunny grandmother's gardens, although they reached Europe with ancient travelers along the Silk Road all the way from the steppes of Central Asia. And the hollyhock's desire to travel has remained. It often self-seeds, and you will find it in a place where you definitely didn't plant it. Naturally, it is a biennial or short-lived perennial. However, its impermanence is balanced by beautiful double flowers and a striking silhouette and height. It is suitable for cutting and was also used for dyeing and as a medicinal plant. The Chater's series includes proven varieties with pompon-like double flowers.

Liatris, Loukykvět

Liatris spicata

Blazing star, also known by the fitting folk name 'top-down flower', is a fascinating perennial that brings an unusual vertical structure to the garden. Originally from the North American prairies, it will appreciate a sunny spot and well-draining, humus-rich soil here as well. It handles winter without any problems, withstanding frosts down to minus thirty-four degrees. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you can simply transplant straight into the flowerbed. It is exceptional in the way it blooms. Unlike most plants, its striking purple flower spikes open from the top down. From July to September, these tall spikes become a magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. In flowerbeds, it works excellently in mixed plantings with ornamental grasses. It does not need support and does not suffer from diseases, just watch out for voles. Blazing star flowers are great for cutting into summer bouquets, adding an original shape and a lilac to purple color. Moreover, the left-over stems will create a beautiful winter effect.

Rudbeckia Goldsturm, Loukykvět
New

Rudbeckia fulgida

Rudbeckia Goldsturm is a reliable and long-lived perennial that will bring the warm tones of late summer and autumn to your garden. It originally comes from the open plains and prairies of North America, which is why it revels most in sunny locations with standard garden soil, whether it is loamy, humus-rich, or clayey. From us, you will receive an already grown seedling in a pot, which you just need to transplant to the chosen spot in the flowerbed. It is an absolutely undemanding plant, does not suffer from diseases or pests, and survives severe frosts without any problems. The Goldsturm cultivar grows to a height of around seventy centimeters and does not need support. From August to October, it produces a flood of golden-yellow flowers with distinctively dark cones. These edible flowers attract pollinators and fit perfectly into both prairie and rustic plantings. Rudbeckia is also great for cutting; it lasts around ten days in a vase. The striking dark centers can also be easily dried. If you leave them in the flowerbed over the winter, they will provide a wonderful spectacle.

Sea Holly, Loukykvět
For drying

Eryngium planum

Sea holly is an indispensable perennial for all lovers of naturally styled gardens. It earned its folk name - male fidelity - in times when it was used in herbal medicine as an aphrodisiac, and its roots were even candied as sweets in France and England. Today, however, you will appreciate it mainly for its low maintenance and unique appearance. Its home is on sunny hillsides and dry meadows, so even in our gardens, it will welcome well-drained, even poorer sandy soil and full sun. It produces upright, sturdy stems topped with blue-purple flowers with prickly bracts, which bring interesting structure and a silvery touch to the flowerbeds. It is literally a magnetic plant for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, who find a rich food source on it. Floristically, it is extremely valuable, because its flowers are perfectly suited for cutting as well as drying for winter decorations. If you decide not to harvest it, feel free to leave it in the flowerbed all winter. Its silhouette covered in hoarfrost creates a wonderful winter effect. Although it is a short-lived perennial, in a suitable location it reliably self-seeds, so you will enjoy its beauty for many years.

Geum Mai Tai, Loukykvět

Geum rivale

Avens Mai Tai is a charming spring perennial that brings a romantic touch to the garden with its adorable cup-shaped flowers. The original species often grows near streams and in moister meadows, so it will easily settle in our gardens in sun or partial shade, where well-drained, loamy, and slightly humous soil will suit it best. You will receive a rooted seedling in a pot from us, which you just need to transplant into the flowerbed. Avens forms nice basal clumps of green leaves, which over time function as an excellent ground cover. Its growth is reliable and its care is downright undemanding, because the plant is not bothered by pests or diseases and withstands frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees. It stands out best when you plant it in smaller groups about thirty centimeters apart. From May to July, richly branched stems bearing semi-double flowers with gently ruffled petals appear above the foliage. The Mai Tai cultivar, which was bred in the USA in 2005, is characterized by its amazing color variability. It blooms in peach tones with a pink tint and gradually transitions into more muted pastel, salmon, and apricot shades. Blooming avens is a huge attraction for insects, especially for butterflies. We cut the stems for a vase when roughly a quarter to half of the flowers on the stem are open. They will stay beautiful in water for approximately seven days and add lightness and movement to an arrangement. However, its flowers are not suitable for drying. Although it is more of a short-lived perennial, it will bring you a lot of joy in the flowerbed with its rich flowers and undemanding nature.

Catmint Superba, Loukykvět

Nepeta racemosa

Catmints are ideal companions for roses, suitable for natural-style gardens, and lower species also for window boxes and pots. Some of them are an irresistible attraction for cats, caused by the hallucinogen nepetalactone. This should be contained in the highest amount in the species Nepeta cataria. Conversely, lemon-scented catmints reportedly do not attract cats. The botanical name Nepeta probably comes from the name of the ancient Etruscan city Nepet - Nepi in the territory of today's Italian province of Viterbo, where the plant was once cultivated. Nepeta racemosa grows naturally on dry meadows and rocky, stony slopes from the Caucasus to Central Asia. It has aromatic gray-green leaves and forms a tufted semi-circular bush. Superba is a great variety, valued for its energetic cushion-like growth and almost continuous flowering.

Sage Grower's Friend, Loukykvět
Fragrant

Salvia officinalis

Grower's Friend common sage is an aromatic and extremely hardy perennial that is a must-have for any herb garden. Its native habitat is the sunny, dry slopes of the Mediterranean, which is why it thrives best in direct sun and well-drained, rather poor soil. You will receive a beautifully established seedling in a pot, ready to be planted straight into the border, where it will quickly form a compact bush reaching about half a meter in height. It is a completely low-maintenance plant that is free from diseases and pests, effortlessly handles frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees, and is easy for complete beginners to care for. During June and July, it blooms with tiny violet-blue flowers that act as an absolute magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It fits perfectly into drought-tolerant gravel beds, where it naturally complements ornamental grasses and other herbs. The flowers on sturdy stems are excellent for cutting into summer bouquets and for drying for floristry. The Grower's Friend variety stands out with its velvety, grayish-green leaves that have an exceptionally high concentration of essential oils. These edible leaves are fantastic in the kitchen and in homemade tea blends. If you want to maximize the aromatic strength of the leaves, we recommend regularly removing the emerging flowers.

Salvia Viola's Darling, Loukykvět

Salvia gregii

The 'Viola's Darling' Sage is a charming subshrub that will bring a breath of the hot south to your terrace or balcony. The original species comes from the arid regions of Texas and Mexico, so this plant literally loves the sun and well-drained, sandy soil. Its biggest advantage is its record-breakingly long flowering period. From May until the first November frosts, it will delight you with a flood of tiny blossoms in a delicate lilac shade. The leaves are strongly aromatic and, just like the flowers, edible, so you can also use them in the kitchen to spice up summer salads or desserts. In our conditions, Salvia greggii is considered more of a portable plant, as it can only withstand frost down to -12 °C. It is therefore an ideal choice for growing in containers that you can move to a cool, bright room for the winter, or you can plant it in a protected, warm location in the warmest regions of the country with good winter covering.

Thyme Lemon, Loukykvět
Fragrant

Thymus citriodorus

Lemon creeping thyme is a fragrant perennial that will instantly surprise you with its fresh citrus scent. The native species grow on sunny, dry rocky slopes, which is why it performs best here in full sun and well-drained, rather sandy soil. It forms dense, low cushions twenty to thirty centimeters high, which become covered in a profusion of tiny pink flowers from June to July. These provide a rich source of nectar, attracting bees, bumblebees, and other pollinators. You will receive an established seedling in a pot, ready to be planted directly into the border or a large patio container. Creeping thyme is low-maintenance, pest- and disease-free, and easy for beginners to look after. It survives frosts down to minus eighteen degrees, provided it is planted in a drier spot to avoid winter waterlogging. It pairs beautifully with other herbs and finer drought-tolerant perennials in borders. Its green leaves are edible and useful in the kitchen for summer drinks and flavoring dishes. You can also dry them, as they retain excellent aroma. In the garden, it functions wonderfully as both a ground cover and a fragrant sensory element.

Cultivation

Pokud nemáte zahradu, pobleklu lze úspěšně pěstovat i v nádobách či truhlících.

The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.
