Persian lily Green Dreams is an impressive bulbous plant that deserves a place of honor in the plantings of more experienced gardeners. The original species comes from the rocky and sunny slopes of the Middle East, primarily Iran and Turkey, which hints at its habitat requirements. It requires a sunny spot with very well-drained, humus-rich to sandy soil, as the bulbs are sensitive to waterlogging, especially during the summer dormancy period when the plant dies back. On sturdy, thick stems that grow up to one meter tall, it bears clusters of downward-facing bell-shaped flowers. In the Green Dreams cultivar, the basic green color is complemented by subtle shades of plum purple. In the garden, it stands out in groups or as the dominant feature of a spring flower bed, which reliably attracts pollinators. The flowers are also suitable for cutting into a vase, where they stay fresh for a long time, but keep in mind that the entire plant is poisonous.

Baptisia comes from North America, belongs to the legume family, and resembles lupine in appearance. Unlike lupine, however, it does not suffer from fungal diseases and does not taste as good to slugs. Besides the blue flowers, the large pods that adorn the plant long after flowering are interesting. North American Indians used Baptisia roots to disinfect wounds and lower fever, and leaves to dye fabrics. With Baptisia, patience is most important; it takes some time to fully establish and create a massive root system adapted to survive long periods of drought and fire. Then it is very long-lived. It was chosen as the Perennial of the Year for the 2019 season.

Pro úspěšné pěstování řebčíku perského 'Green Dreams' je naprosto klíčový výběr správného stanoviště, které by mělo co nejvíce imitovat jeho domovinu na kamenitých svazích Blízkého východu. Vyberte pro něj slunné a teplé místo, kde se bude rostlině dařit nejlépe. Půda musí být velmi dobře propustná, humózní a spíše písčitá. Pokud máte na zahradě těžkou jílovitou půdu, je nezbytné ji před výsadbou vylepšit přidáním hrubšího písku nebo drobného štěrku, aby byla zajištěna dokonalá drenáž. Cibule řebčíků jsou totiž extrémně citlivé na přemokření, které může vést k hnilobě, a to zejména v období letního klidu. Jelikož obdržíte již vzrostlou sazenici, sázejte ji opatrně tak, abyste nepoškodili kořenový bal, a to do stejné hloubky, v jaké rostla v kontejneru.
Péče během vegetační sezóny spočívá především v udržování přiměřené vlhkosti. Na jaře, kdy rostlina intenzivně roste a tvoří svá impozantní květenství, potřebuje pravidelnou zálivku. V tomto období také doporučujeme přihnojovat tekutým hnojivem pro cibuloviny, což podpoří násadu květů a celkovou vitalitu. Jakmile však řebčík odkvete, začíná se chystat k letnímu spánku. V tuto chvíli je nutné zálivku výrazně omezit a nechat půdu spíše suchou. Důležitým pravidlem je neodstraňovat listy hned po odkvětu. Nechte je na rostlině přirozeně zežloutnout a zaschnout – právě v této době si cibule stahuje zpět živiny, aby mohla příští rok znovu vykvést. Odstraňte pouze odkvetlé stonky, aby se rostlina nevysilovala tvorbou semen.
Zimování řebčíku perského je v našich podmínkách obvykle bezproblémové, jelikož se jedná o mrazuvzdornou trvalku, která snese teploty až k -28 °C (zóna 5a). Přesto je vhodné místo výsadby na zimu zamulčovat chvojím nebo suchým listím, nikoliv však kvůli mrazu, ale spíše jako ochranu před nadměrnou zimní vlhkostí, která je pro cibule nebezpečnější než chlad. Pokud se rozhodnete pro pěstování v nádobách, zvolte dostatečně hluboký a velký květináč s drenážními otvory. Na dno dejte silnou vrstvu keramzitu a použijte lehký substrát smíchaný s pískem. Mějte na paměti, že v nádobě půda promrzá rychleji, proto je vhodné květináč na zimu obalit nebo umístit do chráněného prostoru. Při manipulaci s rostlinou buďte opatrní, celá je jedovatá.

Gaura Siskiyou Pink is a charming perennial that brings lightness and airiness to the garden. Its original native area is in the warm regions of Texas and Louisiana, which is why it thrives in full sun and well-drained sandy soil. It grows in clumps and from June until the autumn frosts produces tiny raspberry-pink flowers that resemble fluttering butterflies.
