Krokus Barr’s Purple je výjimečně nenáročná trvalka, které se nejlépe daří v humózní a dobře propustné půdě. Ideální je pro něj stanoviště na plném slunci nebo v mírném polostínu. Výborně poroste i pod listnatými stromy a opadavými keři, protože jeho lila květy se objevují už v únoru a březnu, tedy ještě před olistěním dřevin. Jakmile stromy na jaře plně vyraší a začnou vrhat stín, krokus již přirozeně postupně zatáhne a bezpečně v půdě přečká až do příští sezóny. Díky této vlastnosti je naprosto ideální pro zplanění a postupné vytvoření bohatých koberců. Jde o rostlinu mimořádně vhodnou pro začátečníky, která navíc v předjaří funguje jako nesmírně důležitý zdroj potravy pro probouzející se včely a další opylovače. Cibule vysazujeme vždy na podzim, ideální období pro výsadbu je od září do listopadu, zkrátka dokud půda trvale nezamrzne. Pokud cibule nebudete sázet ihned, skladujte je na chladném, temném a dobře větraném místě, aby nezačaly předčasně rašit nebo plesnivět. Samotná výsadba je velmi jednoduchá. Cibule sázíme špičkou nahoru do hloubky 5 až 8 centimetrů. Stejnou vzdálenost, tedy 5 až 8 centimetrů, dodržujeme i mezi jednotlivými cibulkami. Aby vynikl jejich drobnější vzrůst s výškou okolo 8 až 12 centimetrů, doporučujeme hustější skupinovou výsadbu. Běžně se počítá s množstvím 100 až 150 cibulí na jeden metr čtvereční, což zaručí ten správný vizuální efekt na jarním záhonu. Během jarního růstu a kvetení vyžadují rostliny střední zálivku. Půda by měla být mírně vlhká, ale rozhodně ne trvale přemokřená, což by mohlo vést k uhnívání cibulek. Po odkvětu je naprosto klíčové neodstraňovat zelené listy příliš brzy. Nechte je na záhonu přirozeně zaschnout a zežloutnout, protože cibule si z nich stahuje nezbytné živiny pro kvetení v dalším roce. Velkou výhodou tohoto druhu je fakt, že netrpí žádnými běžnými chorobami, takže zcela odpadá nutnost používání jakýchkoliv postřiků. S přezimováním si rovněž nemusíte dělat vůbec žádné starosti. Tento krokus je plně mrazuvzdorný až do úctyhodných -34 °C. Cibule tak zůstávají trvale na svém místě v zemi, kde se budou ochotně a bez cizí pomoci samy množit pomocí dceřiných cibulek.
