Cultivation
Vlčinec je zcela nenáročná trvalka pro slunná místa s běžnou zahradní půdou, která spolehlivě nahradí choulostivější druhy. Z dodané vzrostlé sazenice vám rychle vyroste mohutný trs, proto pro ni vyberte slunné nebo polostinné stanoviště, kde bude mít dostatek prostoru. Ideální je běžná hlinitá zemina. Rostlina si tvoří velmi bohatý a hluboký kořenový systém, díky kterému se skvěle hodí i pro zpevňování svahů. Při výsadbě dodržujte spon padesát až šedesát centimetrů, což odpovídá dvěma až třem rostlinám na metr čtvereční. Takto velký rozestup zajistí dobrou cirkulaci vzduchu a rostliny si nebudou konkurovat.
Po zasazení do volné půdy sazenici pravidelně zalévejte, dokud plně nezakoření. Následně jí vyhovuje mírná vlhkost, dospělá rostlina si díky hlubokým kořenům dokáže vodu dobře najít sama. Zjara můžete přidat běžné organické hnojivo, ale vlčinec není na živiny nijak náročný. Přestože v dospělosti dosahuje úctyhodné výšky kolem sto třiceti centimetrů, má velmi pevné stonky a nevyžaduje žádnou oporu. Během května a června se můžete těšit na záplavu citrónově žlutých květů. Pokud odstraňujete odkvetlé výhony, rostlinu to esteticky oživí, ale můžete je také ponechat a využít později atraktivní semeníky k sušení.
Tato rostlina je vzhledem i růstem podobná lupinám, ovšem zcela bez jejich náchylnosti k houbovým chorobám a škůdcům. Roste velmi zdravě a péči o ni zvládne i úplný začátečník. Na konci podzimu nebo brzy na jaře stačí odumřelé nadzemní části seříznout těsně nad zemí. Vlčinec je extrémně mrazuvzdorný, bez problémů snese teploty až do -34 °C, takže nevyžaduje žádnou zimní ochranu. Zákazníci se často ptají na pěstování v květináči. Vzhledem k mohutnému kůlovému kořeni a celkové výšce je dlouhodobé pěstování v nádobách poměrně složité. Pokud jej přesto chcete mít na terase, zvolte velmi hluboký a těžký květináč, zajistěte výbornou drenáž a pamatujte, že rostlina je jedovatá, takže by měla být mimo dosah malých dětí a domácích mazlíčků.

This species of sage originally comes from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms profusely flowering small clumps with straight upright stems. In flower beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, due to the identical flowering time, it is planted as a companion to roses. However, it will look just as good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It lasts 7 days in a vase. The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.

A valuable garden and medicinal perennial, originally from North America. It blooms in summer with dark purple-pink flowers. The spiky flower discs are an irresistible lure for butterflies. Lasts 7–10 days in a vase. After plucking the petals, the stems with the central discs can be dried or used in fresh bouquets as an interesting element. Rubinstern is very similar to the Magnus cultivar; the petals are darker and firmer. As they fade, they gradually pale and droop downwards.

Gaura is a clump-forming perennial native to Texas and Louisiana. Here, it behaves more like a short-lived perennial.
