Growing the Siberian squill is easy and can be done even by a complete beginner who desires a flood of sky-blue flowers. For the successful growth of these bulbs, choose a location in partial shade or in the sun that has humus-rich, loamy, and sufficiently permeable soil. This species is perfectly suited for naturalizing in meadows or under deciduous trees, where it naturally complements the spring atmosphere and provides the much-needed first food for pollinators. Before the trees sprout in the spring, the Siberian squill will finish blooming and its above-ground part will then completely disappear, thereby freeing up space for other plants. It requires no pinching or additional support; for its smaller stature, it simply isn't necessary.
You will receive the largest bulbs from us, which we recommend planting in the autumn, preferably during September, October, or November. If you cannot plant them immediately upon delivery, store them in the dark and cold in a well-ventilated place. Place them in the ground at a depth of 5 to 10 centimeters with the tip facing up. The Siberian squill looks best when grown close together. Therefore, choose a spacing of 5 to 10 centimeters to create dense clumps. In terms of year-round maintenance, it is an undemanding plant that only requires moderate moisture. A great advantage is its perfect health, as it does not suffer from diseases. Thanks to its frost resistance down to -28 degrees Celsius, the bulbs overwinter in the soil without any problems, where they will spontaneously spread via daughter bulbs, and you will thus see richer flowering every year.
The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.
