Hellebore Double Ellen Picotee, Loukykvět

Helleborus orientalis

Hellebores are evergreen perennials that form slowly spreading clumps of leathery, dark green leaves. The stems usually carry four to five flowers. They bloom very early, as early as late winter and early spring. They can be used in a vase only after conspicuous seed pods form in the center of the flower and the flower matures. Picked earlier, they tend to wilt and the stems cannot hold the flower upright. All parts of the plant are poisonous. The semi-double flowers of the Double Ellen Picotee hellebore take on white and light pink hues with a purplish-burgundy edging.

Black Mullein, Loukykvět

Verbascum nigrum var. album

Dark mullein is a native perennial and a popular medicinal herb that will bring a piece of unbridled nature into your garden. Its natural home is found on sunny slopes, embankments, and roadsides, which is why it thrives best in our gardens in full sun, in well-drained and rather sandy soil. It can handle longer periods of drought and easily survives frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees. It forms a neat basal rosette of dark green leaves, from which sturdy stems over a meter tall emerge in May and June. While the original wild species blooms yellow, this exceptional var. album form boasts pure white flowers cleverly decorated with purple and finely hairy stamens. These flowers act literally as a magnet for bees and other beneficial pollinators. Although it is a short-lived perennial, if it likes it at your place, it will reliably take care of new seedlings and grow in the same spot in the following years. In a flowerbed, it perfectly complements drought-tolerant grasses and fits beautifully into naturally styled plantings. You can also confidently cut the sturdy, tall flower stems for a vase, where they will look stunning for several days, and they serve as an unconventional element in summer bouquets. Mullein does not require any complicated care, and generally does not suffer from pests or diseases, so even complete beginners can grow it without any trouble.

Bleeding Heart, Loukykvět

Dicentra spectabilis

The original home of bleeding hearts is Korea and China, where they grow in light deciduous forests. They are classic garden perennials. They will look perfect in nostalgically styled flower beds; the white variant fits well even into naturalistic woodland gardens. They are popular for their heart-shaped flowers hanging on horizontal or arching stems. These weaken and die back some time after flowering; all the plant's energy then concentrates in the roots, and at that moment, we can cut the above-ground part back completely. For the rest of the year, we won't even know the bleeding heart is in the garden. It will remind us of its charm again in the spring. Perfect vase life, at least 7 days. Harvest when the first 3–4 flowers open on the stem. The basic species has pink-white flowers. In spring, the sprouting shoots have a pink tinge.

Earlier, they tend to wilt, and the stems cannot hold the flower upright. All parts of the plant are poisonous. Liatris Floristan White, Loukykvět

Liatris spicata

The pure white flowers of the 'Floristan White' variety bring elegant vertical lines and a completely novel look to summer beds. Blazing star is very popular among growers thanks to its peculiarity; it blooms exactly the opposite of most other plants, from the tip of the inflorescence downwards, which has earned it the fitting folk name "shorakvět" (top-flower) in our country. Its natural homeland is the North American prairies, where it grows in open sunny areas with nutritious and well-drained humous soil. Exactly such conditions will be ideal for it in your garden as well. We send customers grown seedlings directly in pots, which take root quickly after being transplanted into the ground and soon form vigorous clumps of narrow green leaves. Caring for this perennial is truly undemanding, and beginner gardeners can embark on it without worry. The plant grows to a height of sixty to ninety centimeters, has stable stems that do not require support, is avoided by diseases, and excels in reliable frost resistance, as it can withstand temperatures down to minus thirty-four degrees. The only unwanted visitor can be the field vole, which is sometimes attracted to its tubers. From mid-summer to early autumn, you can look forward to blooming, which makes the plant a living magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. In beds, it looks great in larger groups and gets along perfectly with ornamental grasses. The flowers apply excellently in floristry, because they stay fresh for a long time in a vase and liven up any bouquet. Furthermore, it pays off to leave the stems on the bed in autumn, as they provide a beautiful spectacle for winter interest.

Phlox Nora Leight, Loukykvět

Phlox paniculata

Phlox, also known as garden phlox, is originally a perennial native to North America. It soon achieved great popularity in European gardens and has been systematically bred since the 19th century. It is a classic perennial for cutting into bouquets, where, in addition to colorful flowers, it also delights with a gentle fragrance. We harvest as soon as roughly half of the flowers in the inflorescence have bloomed; then it lasts up to 10 days in a vase. Despite efforts to breed the most resistant cultivars possible, it remains true that phlox reacts extremely sensitively to climate and soil conditions, so we pay careful attention to the correct choice of location. Nora Leight attracts attention with creamy variegated leaves, which complement the delicate pinkish-white flowers with a darker eye. Thanks to the light foliage, it can brighten up darker corners of the garden.

Echinacea pallida, Loukykvět

Echinacea pallida

The pale coneflower is one of the exceptionally interesting prairie perennials of the North American continent. In its natural environment, it grows on open, sunny plains, which is why it thrives best in our gardens in full sun in drier, well-drained soil. You just need to transplant this grown seedling straight into the flower bed, where it will reliably take root. It does not need support, easily withstands severe frosts, and is avoided by common diseases and pests, making it ideal for beginner growers. During June and July, it will reward you with aromatic flowers with unusually narrow and drooping petals in light purple and pink tones. The prominent prickly centers are literally a magnet for bees and bumblebees, and the flowers themselves are surprisingly edible. The plant stands out especially in rustic plantings together with ornamental grasses. Gardeners and florists love it for its versatility. The fresh stems bring joy in a vase for about a week. Moreover, the distinctive central cones hold their shape perfectly, can be perfectly dried for winter decorations, or left in the flower bed, where they will create an eye-catching winter structure under a layer of snow.

Echinacea pallida

The pale coneflower originally comes from the vast and sunny North American prairies, where it grows as a hardy and long-lived perennial. You will receive from us a grown seedling in a pot, which you just need to transplant into loamy or sandy well-drained soil in a sunny location. The coneflower is completely undemanding, easily handles severe frosts, and is avoided by most diseases and pests. Jacob's Ladder White Pearl, Loukykvět

Polemonium caeruleum f. album

The White Pearl Jacob's ladder presents an elegant yet very resilient perennial that overwinters without problems in our conditions. The original species grows in damp habitats from Europe to Siberia, making it an ideal plant for humus-rich and moister soils. If you have a spot in the garden that is not explicitly dry, Jacob's ladder will reward you with vital growth and abundant blooming. Its leaves are divided and arranged so regularly that they resemble the rungs of a ladder. This is where its common name, Jacob's ladder, comes from. During June and July, stems with pure white flowers adorned with delicate yellow stamens tower above the clumps of leaves. The White Pearl variety grows to a height of around 80 centimeters and looks very airy in perennial beds. It is perfectly suited for partially shaded areas but will also tolerate sun if provided with regular watering. The flowers are a magnet for bees and other beneficial insects. Floristically, Jacob's ladder is valuable for its longevity and decorative appearance. We cut the stems the moment the first third of the flowers has bloomed, so they last as long as possible in a vase, which is usually seven to ten days. The pure white flower color of White Pearl is easy to combine and brings peace and harmony to summer arrangements. The plant does not suffer from pests or diseases and is also suitable for novice growers looking for undemanding beauty.

Cupid's Dart Alba, Loukykvět

It is a plant native to the Mediterranean, so for happy growth, it requires plenty of sun and, most importantly, well-drained, sandy soil. In our conditions, it behaves as a short-lived perennial, but in a suitable spot, it gladly self-seeds and renews itself. A great advantage of Cupid's dart is its versatility for florists. Baptisia australis, Loukykvět

Baptisia comes from North America, belongs to the legume family, and resembles lupine in appearance. Unlike lupine, however, it does not suffer from fungal diseases and does not taste as good to slugs. Besides the blue flowers, the large pods that adorn the plant long after flowering are interesting. North American Indians used Baptisia roots to disinfect wounds and lower fever, and leaves to dye fabrics. With Baptisia, patience is most important; it takes some time to fully establish and create a massive root system adapted to survive long periods of drought and fire. Then it is very long-lived. It was chosen as the Perennial of the Year for the 2019 season.

Sesleria sadleriana, Loukykvět

Seslaria heufleriana

Blue-green moor grass is an undemanding and reliable ornamental grass that brings structure and color to the spring garden at a time when most other plants are just waking up. It naturally grows on sunny to semi-shady rocky slopes and edges of light forests in southeastern Europe, where it has perfectly adapted to well-draining soils. Thanks to its origin, it is extremely hardy against frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees and does not suffer from any common diseases or pests. Even a complete beginner can grow it without any problems. The potted seedling simply needs to be transplanted to a chosen spot in the flowerbed, ideally into well-draining soil in full sun or light partial shade. The plant will soon form dense clumps and will captivate you especially with its unique two-toned leaves. Their upper side carries a cool blue-green shade, while the underside is elegantly grayish. As early as March, sturdy stems bearing unconventional dark purple-black spikes grow from these clumps, contrasting unexpectedly with pastel yellow and creamy stamens. The inflorescences persist until May and perfectly complement spring bulbs. The dark spring spikes with long stems also represent an interesting floristic element. They can be used in the first spring bouquets, where they stay fresh in a vase for about a week, or you can let them dry for use in long-lasting dried arrangements.

Columbine Kristall, Loukykvět

Aquilegia vulgaris

The common columbine is a versatile perennial that will reliably inhabit both rural and modern flowerbeds. In the wild, it grows on the edges of forests and in light groves across all of Europe, which is why it thrives best in the garden in full sun to partial shade and ordinary loamy soil rich in humus. Its main charm lies in its unusually shaped flowers, but it is also valuable for its very early sprouting green leaves, which awaken the garden after winter. You will receive a beautifully grown seedling in a pot from us, which you just need to transplant to your chosen spot. Although the plant is poisonous, it represents a huge asset for gardeners. Even complete beginners can manage growing it, pests avoid it, and it easily survives severe frosts dropping to minus thirty-four degrees. During May and June, delicate flowers bloom on sturdy, sixty to eighty-centimeter-tall stems, bringing typical airiness and lightness to the planting. The 'Kristall' cultivar is a large-flowered variety that stands out with pure white flowers and prominent spurs. These act as a reliable magnet for bees, bumblebees, and other beneficial pollinators. Keep in mind that in a favorable location, columbine very willingly self-seeds, taking care of natural-looking wild stands. It works well in perennial beds and as an undergrowth beneath taller shrubs. If you like bringing a piece of the garden home, columbine certainly won't disappoint you. It is perfectly suited for cutting and will bring a novel structure to spring bouquets. Fresh flowers will bring you joy in a vase for about seven days. If you leave some of the flowers to finish blooming on the flowerbed, they will form interesting seed pods, which are highly popular among florists for creating various natural decorations and can also be dried well. Just watch out for the occasional occurrence of powdery mildew during the drier months, but otherwise, the plant needs almost no care.

Cultivation

Alchemilla mollis

Alchemilla mollis, known as lady's mantle, is an indispensable perennial for anyone who wants to bring harmony and softness to the garden. Its home is the moister environments of mountain meadows and light forests, making it a very adaptable plant that will survive even severe frosts without problems in our climate. The 'Irish Silk' cultivar is prized for its vitality and abundant blooming, where clouds of tiny, yellow-green flowers float above clumps of gray-green leaves. It is precisely this neutral color that can work wonders in a flower bed – it softens overly sharp contrasts between other flowers and beautifully unifies the entire composition. Besides its ornamental function, lady's mantle also has practical uses. Thanks to its clumping growth and ability to quickly fill in, it is ideal for edging pathways or as an underplanting beneath taller shrubs and roses. Water droplets catch on its leaves, creating a magical spectacle in the garden. If you enjoy making bouquets, you will love lady's mantle as versatile filler greenery that matches almost anything. It will last beautiful for about ten days in a vase, and its inflorescences can also be easily dried without losing too much of their color or shape. Moreover, it is a magnet for pollinators, and its young leaves are even edible, so it also finds use in a natural kitchen.

Sea Holly, Loukykvět
For drying

Eryngium planum

Sea holly is an indispensable perennial for all lovers of naturally styled gardens. Its home is on sunny hillsides and dry meadows, so even in our gardens, it will welcome well-drained, even poorer sandy soil and full sun. It produces upright, sturdy stems topped with blue-purple flowers with prickly bracts, which bring interesting structure and a silvery touch to the flowerbeds. It is literally a magnetic plant for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, who find a rich food source on it. Floristically, it is extremely valuable, because its flowers are perfectly suited for cutting as well as drying for winter decorations.
