Původní druhy této šalvěje pocházejí ze suchých a slunných oblastí Texasu a Mexika, což z ní dělá milovnici slunce a tepla. V našich podmínkách se nejlépe uplatní jako přenosná rostlina v nádobách na terasách a balkonech, kde vynikne její kompaktní vzrůst a záplava drobných modrofialových květů. Ačkoliv snese pokles teplot k -12 °C, v chladnějších oblastech doporučujeme zimování na chráněném místě bez mrazu, případně pečlivou zimní přikrývku, pokud ji vysadíte do země na chráněné stanoviště. Listy mají příjemnou kořenitou vůni a celá rostlina působí jako magnet na včely a další opylovače. Blue Note je ceněná především pro svůj unikátní odstín květů, který se pohybuje na pomezí tmavě modré a fialové barvy. Pěstování je snadné i pro začátečníky, stačí jí dopřát propustnou půdu, slunné stanoviště a občasnou zálivku. Díky jedlým květům můžete barevně oživit i letní saláty nebo dezerty.

Unlike lupine, however, it does not suffer from fungal diseases and does not taste as good to slugs. Besides the blue flowers, the large pods that adorn the plant long after flowering are interesting. North American Indians used Baptisia roots to disinfect wounds and lower fever, and leaves to dye fabrics. With Baptisia, patience is most important; it takes some time to fully establish and create a massive root system adapted to survive long periods of drought and fire. Then it is very long-lived. It was chosen as the Perennial of the Year for the 2019 season.

Jelikož obdržíte již zapěstovanou sazenici, odpadá vám starost s náročným výsevem a můžete se rovnou pustit do výsadby. Šalvěj 'Blue Note' je rostlina, která pro svůj zdárný růst vyžaduje především dvě věci: plné slunce a teplo. Vyberte jí proto to nejslunnější místo na zahradě, ideálně orientované na jih, nebo ji umístěte na prosluněnou terasu.
Tato odrůda šalvěje je mimořádně vhodná pro pěstování v nádobách a truhlíčcích. Díky svému kompaktnímu vzrůstu (40–60 cm) v květináčích vypadá skvěle a snadněji se s ní manipuluje při zimování. Při pěstování v nádobě dbejte na to, aby měl květináč odtokové otvory a na dně drenážní vrstvu. Zálivka by měla být mírná; šalvěj je suchomilná a snese spíše krátkodobé sucho než trvalé vlhko. Zalévejte až tehdy, když substrát proschne. Během vegetační sezóny ji můžete občas přihnojit hnojivem pro kvetoucí rostliny, ale není to nezbytně nutné, v příliš výživné půdě může méně kvést. Velkou výhodou je, že tato rostlina netrpí na běžné choroby ani škůdce, takže vás nečeká žádný chemický boj, pouze radost z květů. V nejteplejších oblastech se můžete pokusit i o pěstování ve volné půdě. Vybírejte to nejteplejší místo chráněné ideálně stěnou domu. Půda musí být dokonale propustná, spíše hlinitopísčitá nebo s příměsí drobného štěrku. Tato rostlina nesnáší přemokření, které by mohlo vést k uhnívání kořenů, proto se vyhněte těžkým jílovitým půdám nebo místům, kde se drží voda. Pokud máte na zahradě těžší zeminu, je nezbytné na dno výsadbové jámy nasypat silnou vrstvu drenáže z kamínků a zeminu vylehčit pískem. Rostliny vysazujte ve sponu přibližně 50 cm od sebe, aby mezi nimi mohl proudit vzduch.
Aby vám 'Blue Note' dělala radost svými modrofialovými květy od května až do listopadu, doporučujeme pravidelně odstraňovat odkvetlá květenství. Tento jednoduchý úkon podpoří tvorbu nových poupat a prodlouží dobu kvetení. Na podzim rostlinu nestříhejte hluboko, ponechte nadzemní část jako přirozenou ochranu před zimou. Hlubší zpětný řez proveďte až na jaře, kdy se začne probouzet k životu – tím zajistíte hustý a kompaktní růst. Vzhledem k mrazuvzdornosti do -12 °C je v našich podmínkách bezpečnější pěstovat ji jako přenosnou rostlinu. Před příchodem silnějších mrazů přeneste nádoby na světlé, bezmrazé místo (např. do chladné chodby, zimní zahrady nebo garáže s oknem) a omezte zálivku na minimum. Pokud ji pěstujete ve volné půdě v nejteplejších oblastech republiky, je nutná pečlivá zimní přikrývka chvojím nebo netkanou textilií a perfektně suché stanoviště.
