Slézovec Candy Floss si zamilujete pro jeho záplavu něžně růžových květů, které připomínají cukrovou vatu. Tato původem středomořská rostlina v zahradě velmi rychle vytvoří bohatý, téměř keřovitý trs, který je během léta doslova obsypaný květy. Díky svému původu miluje slunná a vyhřátá stanoviště s dobře propustnou půdou, kde se jí daří nejlépe. Její otevřené kalichy jsou neodolatelným lákadlem pro včely a čmeláky, takže v záhonu to bude bzučet životem. Květy jsou nejen krásné na pohled, ale také jedlé, takže jimi můžete netradičně ozdobit letní saláty nebo dezerty. Hodí se i k řezu do vázy, kde vydrží dělat radost několik dní. Ačkoliv jde o trvalku, v našich podmínkách se často chová jako krátkověká rostlina. Její mrazuvzdornost dosahuje zhruba k -10 stupňům Celsia, proto doporučujeme vysazovat ji na chráněná místa a na zimu přikrýt chvojím nebo silnější vrstvou mulče, abyste si její krásu pojistili i pro další sezónu.

Jeho pěstování je velmi snadné a je ideální volbou i pro začínající zahradníky, kteří chtějí rychle zaplnit prázdná místa v záhonu. Vzpřímené stonky jsou vhodné i k řezu do velkých letních kytic, kde vydrží svěží několik dní. Odkvetlé květy je dobré průběžně odstraňovat, čímž podpoříte násadu nových poupat a prodloužíte sezónu barev až do pozdního léta.

Slézovec Barnsley Baby je kompaktní variantou oblíbené trvalky, která vnáší do zahrady nádech středomořské romantiky a lehkosti. Na rozdíl od svých mohutných příbuzných, kteří v domovině dorůstají do úctyhodných rozměrů, se tento kultivar drží při zemi s výškou okolo 75 centimetrů. Díky tomu se skvěle hodí i do menších trvalkových záhonů, předzahrádek nebo smíšených výsadeb, kde by jiné slézovce zabraly příliš mnoho místa. Rostlina vytváří hustý, bohatě větvený keřík pokrytý zelenými listy, který se od června až do srpna doslova obsype množstvím velkých, něžně růžových květů připomínajících ibišky. Ty jsou neodolatelným lákadlem nejen pro lidské oko, ale především pro včely a další opylovače, kteří na nich nacházejí bohatý zdroj nektaru. Cultivation
Tento krásný kultivar slézovce miluje slunce a teplo, proto mu na zahradě dopřejte to nejvíce vyhřáté místo, ideálně u jižní zdi nebo v závětří chráněném před severním prouděním. Sazenice sázejte do propustné a hlinité půdy, která není příliš těžká ani jílovitá. Pokud máte na zahradě těžkou půdu, vylehčete ji při výsadbě přimícháním písku nebo drobného štěrku. Vzhledem k tomu, že rostlina dorůstá výšky až dva metry a tvoří široké trsy, dopřejte jí dostatek prostoru (spon cca 75 cm). Díky tomu bude mezi listy proudit vzduch, což je nejlepší prevence proti rzi slézové, která může rostliny v hustých výsadbách trápit.
Aby byl váš slézovec 'Candy Floss' po celé léto doslova obsypaný květy připomínajícími cukrovou vatu, je vhodné průběžně odstraňovat odkvetlé části. Tím zamezíte tvorbě semen a rostlina bude investovat energii do tvorby nových poupat. Zálivku volte přiměřenou – rostlina nesnáší trvalé mokro, ale v horkých letních dnech, zejména pokud ji pěstujete v nádobě, vodu potřebuje. Při pěstování v květináči dbejte na to, aby byl dostatečně velký a stabilní, protože ve větru by se vysoká rostlina mohla převrátit.
Zásadním bodem péče je přezimování. Slézovec je mrazuvzdorný jen částečně, proto je nutné ho na příchod zimy připravit. S příchodem prvních mrazíků přikryjte bázi rostliny silnou vrstvou mulče, chvojí nebo slámy. I přes veškerou péči se slézovec často chová jako krátkověká trvalka, která na stanovišti vydrží jen několik sezón. To však bohatě vynahrazuje svou rychlostí růstu a intenzitou kvetení hned v prvním roce po výsadbě. Na jaře se nebojte provést hlubší řez; rostlina velmi dobře regeneruje a omladí se.
Kromě okrasné funkce plní slézovec i roli užitkovou. Jeho něžné květy jsou jedlé a skvěle vypadají v letních dezertech. Zároveň je rostlina velkým lákadlem pro včely a další opylovače. Během sezóny kontrolujte výskyt mšic, které se mohou objevit na mladých výhoncích. Pokud se rozhodnete pro pěstování v nádobě, nezapomeňte na pravidelné přihnojování hnojivem pro kvetoucí rostliny, protože živiny v květináči se vyčerpají rychleji než ve volné půdě.
