Amsonia illustris

Amsonia originates from the eastern regions of the United States, where they grow in moister grassy habitats. They are undemanding and adaptable perennials, suffering from neither pests nor diseases. Floristically interesting mainly for their sky-blue flower color and early flowering time at the turn of spring and summer. They can grow in full sun, where the light blue color of the flowers will fade faster, or in partial shade. However, they are interesting all year round – the dark freshly sprouting shoots are striking. Fresh green leaves similar to willow leaves turn mustard yellow shades in autumn. The stems secrete white milk when cut; after searing with a flame and immediately placing in water, they last up to 10 days in a vase. Show full description

Cultivation

Amsonia tabernaemontana

Amsonia comes from the eastern regions of the United States, where they grow in moister grassy habitats. They are undemanding and adaptable perennials, suffering from neither pests nor diseases. They are floristically interesting mainly for their sky-blue flower color and early flowering time at the turn of spring and summer.
