Amsonia is an absolutely undemanding perennial that will bring heavenly blue color and a lot of joy to your garden. It originally comes from the eastern regions of the United States, where it naturally grows on moister grassy plains. Therefore, it will thrive best in humus-rich and loamy soil here. Although it loves the sun, it also handles partial shade perfectly, where its light blue flowers will moreover retain their richer color much longer. From us, you will receive an already grown seedling in a pot, which you can simply transplant directly to a chosen spot in the flower bed. You do not need to have any great growing experience; even complete beginners can easily manage its care. This long-lived plant grows to a height of around eighty to one hundred centimeters and is interesting all year round. Already in spring, it will attract your attention with dark, freshly sprouting shoots, which during June and July will be covered in a flood of tiny flowers. In autumn, its fresh green leaves, which strikingly resemble willow leaves in shape, turn into beautiful mustard-yellow tones. A great advantage is that Amsonia reliably resists severe frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees and is avoided by common diseases and pests. You will appreciate the flowers not only in the flower bed but also when creating fresh bouquets. If you decide to cut the stems for a vase, keep one small floral trick in mind. After cutting, they begin to secrete white milky sap, so it is necessary to quickly sear their ends with a flame before placing them in water. Thanks to this step, they will easily stay beautiful in the vase for up to ten days.

Pěstování amsónie z dodané sazenice je skvělou volbou i pro úplné začátečníky, protože tato dlouhověká trvalka nevyžaduje žádnou složitou péči. Jakmile sazenici obdržíte, vyberte jí vhodné stanoviště. Nejlépe se jí bude dařit na slunci, ale velmi dobře snáší i polostín, kde si navíc její blankytně modré květy udrží sytou barvu po delší dobu. Půdu připravte humózní a hlinitou. Při výsadbě na záhon dodržujte spon zhruba 40 centimetrů, což odpovídá asi čtyřem až šesti rostlinám na metr čtvereční. Tento prostor zajistí dobré proudění vzduchu kolem rostlin. Pokud nemáte zahradu, můžete amsónii bez problémů pěstovat i v prostorné nádobě na terase. V takovém případě dbejte na to, aby měl květináč na dně odtokové otvory a použijte kvalitní substrát smíchaný s kompostem.
Zpočátku po výsadbě ocení amsónie záhon s dostatečně vlhkou půdou. Nějaký čas jí totiž trvá, než se v zahradě plně usadí a vytvoří si silný kořenový systém. Jakmile ale po čase zesílí, stává se z ní velmi odolná rostlina, která bez potíží snese i kratší období sucha. Zálivku tedy přizpůsobte aktuálnímu počasí, ale u dospělých rostlin ve volné půdě už nemusíte mít obavy z každodenního zalévání. Rostliny pěstované v nádobách však budou vyžadovat vaši pozornost a pravidelnou zálivku po celou sezónu, protože substrát v květináči vysychá mnohem rychleji. Během jara můžete k rostlinám přidat trochu vyzrálého kompostu pro podporu kvetení, žádné další speciální hnojení není nutné.
Tato trvalka dorůstá do výšky 80 až 100 centimetrů, ale díky svým pevným stonkům nevyžaduje dodatečnou oporu. Obrovskou výhodou je její naprostá bezproblémovost, vyhýbají se jí běžní škůdci i choroby, takže nebudete muset řešit chemické postřiky. Na podzim rostlinu nestříhejte, nechte její listy zbarvit do atraktivních žlutých tónů. K úplnému zpětnému řezu odumřelých stonků přistupte až v předjaří. Amsónie je extrémně mrazuvzdorná, vydrží teploty klesající až k -34 °C, takže na zimu nepotřebuje ochranu. Pokud květy stříháte do vázy, opalte konce stonků plamenem, aby přestaly ronit mléko. Pracujte však opatrně a raději v rukavicích, rostlina je jedovatá.
