Svízel vonný je šperkem jarních bukových lesů a ideální volbou pro stinná zákoutí vaší zahrady. Tato nízká trvalka přirozeně roste ve vlhkých a stinných hájích, kde vytváří souvislé koberce svěže zelených listů. Díky své nenáročnosti a schopnosti rychle se rozrůstat funguje jako perfektní půdopokryvná rostlina, která efektivně potlačuje plevel a udržuje vlhkost v půdě pod korunami stromů nebo keřů. V květnu a červnu se porost rozzáří záplavou drobných, čistě bílých kvítků, které do temnějších koutů vnesou světlo a jemnost. Kromě okrasné funkce je svízel ceněný pro své nezaměnitelné aroma. Obsahuje kumarin, látku připomínající vůni čerstvě pokoseného sena s tóny vanilky, která se plně rozvine až při zavadnutí rostliny. Tradičně se proto používá k ovonění jarních nápojů, jako je májová bowle, nebo k dochucení dezertů. Svízel vonný je ideální rostlinou pro stinná a polostinná zákoutí, kde se jiným trvalkám příliš nedaří. Protože od nás obdržíte již zapěstované sazenice, odpadá složité předpěstování a můžete je vysazovat přímo na záhon. Nejlépe se mu daří pod korunami listnatých stromů a keřů, kde nachází přirozený stín a ochranu před ostrým poledním sluncem, které by mohlo popálit jeho jemné listy. Půda by měla být kyprá, humózní a neustále mírně vlhká, ideálně s příměsí listovky, která napodobuje jeho přirozené lesní prostředí. Naopak těžká jílovitá nebo příliš suchá písčitá půda mu nesvědčí. Před výsadbou doporučujeme půdu vylepšit vyzrálým kompostem, který zajistí dostatek živin a pomůže udržet vláhu.

Při samotné výsadbě dbejte na správný spon, abyste brzy dosáhli efektu souvislého zeleného koberce. Doporučujeme sázet přibližně 9 až 12 rostlin na metr čtvereční, tedy ve vzdálenosti zhruba 25–30 cm od seba. Sazenici vyjměte z kontejneru, kořenový bal jemně rozvolněte a zasaďte tak hluboko, jak rostla v květináči. Po výsadbě je klíčová pravidelná a vydatná zálivka, dokud rostliny plně nezakoření. Svízel se rozrůstá pomocí podzemních oddenků, takže časem zaplní volná místa a vytvoří hustý porost, který efektivně potlačuje růst plevele, čímž vám ušetří práci s pletím. Díky své odolnosti netrpí na škůdce ani choroby, což z něj činí téměř bezúdržbovou trvalku.

Péče během sezóny spočívá především v hlídání vlhkosti, zejména v horkých letních dnech. Pokud svízel pěstujete na správném stanovišti, není nutné jej často hnojit, stačí na jaře přihodit trochu kompostu nebo listovky. Co se týče řezu, rostliny není třeba po odkvětu stříhat, pokud nechcete sklízet nať pro kuchyňské využití. Sklizeň pro aroma se provádí ideálně těsně před rozkvětem nebo na začátku kvetení v květnu, kdy je obsah vonných kumarinů nejvyšší. Nať stříhejte nůžkami kousek nad zemí a sušte ji ve stínu, čímž se plně rozvine její typická vůně sena a vanilky. Rostlina je plně mrazuvzdorná (až do -34 °C) a nevyžaduje na zimu žádnou speciální ochranu, snad jen v případě holomrazů jí prospěje přirozená pokrývka z napadaného listí.

Pěstování svízele v nádobách je možné, ačkoliv je primárně půdopokryvnou rostlinou. Pokud se pro tuto variantu rozhodnete, zvolte širší a mělčí nádobu, která poskytne prostor pro rozrůstání oddenků. Použijte kvalitní substrát pro pokojové rostliny smíchaný s kompostem a dbejte na to, aby nádoba měla odtokové otvory. Klíčové je umístění nádoby do stínu či polostínu – na přímém slunci by v květináči rychle vyschl a uhynul. Substrát v nádobě vysychá rychleji než volná půda, proto je nutné zalévat častěji a pravidelněji. Pozor však na přemokření, které by mohlo způsobit uhnívání kořenů. Na zimu je vhodné nádobu obalit jutou nebo polystyrenem a umístit na chráněné místo, aby kořeny nepromrzly, jelikož v nádobě jsou mnohem zranitelnější než v zemi.

Gaura Siskiyou Pink

Gaura is a clump-forming perennial native to Texas and Louisiana. Here, it behaves more like a short-lived perennial. It combines beautifully with grasses and adds lightness and airiness to flower beds. It is an excellent food source for insects. Tiny flowers resembling small butterflies bloom tirelessly from June until the first frosts. For bouquets, harvest as soon as the first two or three flowers open on the stem. Siskiyou Pink is a beautiful variety with pink-red flowers on slightly arching stems. It is less hardy than the white-flowering varieties. The red-spotted leaves are also interesting.

Eryngium planum

Sea Holly

A perennial that finds its place in naturalistic steppe and gravel beds. It attracts bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It is floristically valuable for its flowers with striking bracts, which are also perfect for drying. The roots of some species were formerly eaten candied as sweets in England and France and added to pastries and jellies. In herbal medicine, it was used as an aphrodisiac, among other things, hence its folk name "male fidelity".

Rubinstern is very similar to the Magnus cultivar; the petals are darker and firmer. As they fade, they gradually pale and droop downwards.

In flower beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, due to the identical flowering time, it is planted as a companion to roses. However, it will look just as good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It lasts 7 days in a vase. The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.

Hellebore Double Ellen White

Hellebores are evergreen perennials that form slowly spreading clumps of leathery, dark green leaves. The stems usually bear four to five flowers. They bloom very early, as early as late winter and early spring. They are usable for vases only after conspicuous seed pods form in the center of the flower and the flower matures. Earlier, they tend to wilt and the stems cannot hold the flower in an upright position. All parts of the plant are poisonous. Double Ellen White is an almost pure white, double-flowered hellebore. The petals are slightly wavy and the bottom row of petals is lightly tinged with green.
