Šalvěj úzkolistá je fascinující trvalka původem z jihozápadu USA a Mexika, která na první pohled klame tělem. Svými úzkými, jehlicovitými listy připomíná spíše okrasnou trávu než klasickou šalvěj, což jí v angličtině vysloužilo název travní šalvěj. Tato unikátní textura vnáší do záhonů lehkost a pohyb, protože se rostlina nádherně vlní i v mírném vánku. Její pravá chvíle přichází v druhé polovině léta a na podzim, kdy se vrcholky stonků obalí drobnými, ale intenzivně zbarvenými květy. Jde o rostlinu stvořenou pro slunná a suchá stanoviště, která by jiným druhům dělala potíže. Výborně prospívá v chudých, štěrkových a dobře propustných půdách, kde jí nehrozí uhnívání kořenů.
Díky své odolnosti vůči suchu a mrazuvzdornosti je ideální volbou pro štěrkové zahrady, stepní výsadby nebo xerofytní záhony. Navíc netrpí na choroby ani škůdce, což z ní dělá skvělou rostlinu i pro začínající pěstitele. Květy jsou magnetem pro včely a další opylovače, kteří ocení pozdní zdroj nektaru v době, kdy většina ostatních trvalek odkvétá. Rostlina je vhodná i k řezu do vázy, kde působí velmi jemným a vzdušným dojmem.

Gaura is a clump-forming perennial native to Texas and Louisiana. Here, it behaves more like a short-lived perennial. It combines beautifully with grasses and adds lightness and airiness to flower beds. It is an excellent food source for insects. Tiny flowers resembling small butterflies bloom tirelessly from June until the first frosts. For bouquets, harvest as soon as the first two or three flowers open on the stem. Siskiyou Pink is a beautiful variety with pink-red flowers on slightly arching stems. It is less hardy than the white-flowering varieties. The red-spotted leaves are also interesting.

Persicaria Fat Domino
This species of knotweed originates from the Himalayas and China, where it grows in scrub and on mountain meadows along streams at high altitudes. It forms sturdy clumps of fresh green, pointed leaves. Above them, upright, narrow, candle-like inflorescences composed of individual tiny flowers appear from summer onwards. It is a very popular perennial, recently bred into many cultivars and used in Western Europe in larger park and garden landscaping. The color is silvery blue-green, which is such a combination that we are not surprised by its popularity at all. Eucalyptus Silver "Dollar" grows beautifully tall, the branches are more sparsely built. The leaves are larger and round in shape. The color of Silver Dollar is more silvery and thus in floristry fits rather into colder color combinations.
For drying, we harvest as soon as the tips of the twigs are mature and the last leaves are firm. Just hang them upside down, in a dry and ventilated place, out of sunlight.

Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding
The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

Pro úspěšné pěstování šalvěje úzkolisté je naprosto klíčový výběr správného stanoviště. Této rostlině se nejlépe daří na plném slunci, kde se její stonky nebudou vytahovat za světlem. Půda by měla být chudší, velmi dobře propustná, ideálně písčitá nebo štěrkovitá. Pokud máte na zahradě těžkou jílovitou zeminu, je nutné ji před výsadbou vylehčit velkým množstvím písku nebo drobného štěrku, jinak hrozí v zimě uhnívání kořenů. Sazenice vysazujte ve sponu přibližně 45 cm (cca 4 až 6 rostlin na metr čtvereční), což jim zajistí dostatek prostoru pro cirkulaci vzduchu a zároveň vytvoří pěkný zapojený porost, který se bude ve větru efektně vlnit.
Během sezóny je tato šalvěj velmi nenáročná a odpustí vám i delší období sucha. Zálivku vyžaduje pouze v prvních týdnech po výsadbě, než si sazenice plně ujmou. Později zalévejte jen velmi sporadicky. Velkým obloukem se vyhněte hnojení, zejména hnojivům s vysokým obsahem dusíku. V příliš výživné půdě rostlina ztrácí svou pevnost, stonky se nevzhledně kácí a kvetení může být slabší. Protože rostlina netrpí na škůdce ani choroby, nemusíte se bát složité ochrany, stačí ji nechat volně růst a užívat si její přirozenou krásu.
Před příchodem zimy není nutné rostlinu složitě zakrývat, je plně mrazuvzdorná až do -23 °C (zóna 6a). Jediným nebezpečím je zimní vlhkost, proto je ona propustná půda tak důležitá. Pokud byste chtěli šalvěj pěstovat v nádobě, je to možné, ale volte květináč s odtokovým otvorem a na dno dejte vysokou vrstvu drenáže. Substrát namíchejte s pískem v poměru 1:1, aby voda rychle odtékala.

V našich podmínkách ji pěstujeme nejčastěji jako přenosnou rostlinu v nádobách na terasách či balkonech, protože její mrazuvzdornost sahá pouze k -12 °C. Na zimu ji proto doporučujeme schovat na bezmrazé světlé místo, případně ji v nejteplejších oblastech republiky pečlivě zakrýt.
Odrůda Nachtvlinder, jejíž název v překladu znamená noční motýl, vás okouzlí sametovými květy v hlubokém odstínu švestkově fialové. Její obrovskou předností je neuvěřitelně dlouhá doba kvetení, která začíná v květnu a často končí až s příchodem silnějších mrazů v listopadu. Salvia greggii, často nazývaná šalvěj podzimní, je v případě kultivaru Dancing Dolls neúnavným vytrvalcem, který vaše zahradní nádoby ozdobí květy od pozdního jara až do zámrazu. Její domovinou jsou polopouštní oblasti Severní Ameriky, proto miluje slunce, teplo a sušší, propustný substrát. Roste jako nízký, hustě větvený polokeř, který se snadno tvaruje a udržuje. Ačkoliv je pěstování nenáročné a vhodné i pro začátečníky, je třeba myslet na její limitovanou mrazuvzdornost.
