With its narrow, needle-like leaves, it resembles an ornamental grass rather than a classic sage, which earned it the English name grass sage. This unique texture brings lightness and movement to flower beds, as the plant ripples beautifully even in a gentle breeze. Its true moment comes in the second half of summer and in autumn, when the tops of the stems are covered with tiny but intensely colored flowers. It is a plant made for sunny and dry habitats that would cause problems for other species. It thrives perfectly in poor, gravelly, and well-drained soils, where it is not at risk of root rot.
Thanks to its drought tolerance and frost hardiness, it is an ideal choice for gravel gardens, steppe plantings, or xerophytic flower beds. If you are looking for a delicate and long-blooming plant for full sun, whorled tickseed is a great choice. The basic species originates from North America, and here it thrives best in a sunny spot and well-drained, rather drier loamy soil. Although it is a short-lived perennial, with the right care and a well-chosen location, it can bring joy for several years. A distinctive feature of this species is its rich foliage of very tiny leaves, which form low, about forty-centimeter-tall bushes. After transplanting from the pot, the mature seedling is perfectly suited for the edges of flower beds or mixed drought-tolerant compositions, where it beautifully softens the overall look. In addition, the plant is fully frost-hardy, requires no special care, and is free from diseases. The 'Moonbeam' variety stands out with countless smaller, creamy-yellow flowers. The color is silvery blue-green, which is such a combination that we are not surprised by its popularity at all. Eucalyptus Silver "Dollar" grows beautifully tall, the branches are more sparsely built. The leaves are larger and round in shape. The color of Silver Dollar is more silvery and thus in floristry fits rather into colder color combinations.
For drying, we harvest as soon as the tips of the twigs are mature and the last leaves are firm. Just hang them upside down, in a dry and ventilated place, out of sunlight.

Cultivation
Pro úspěšné pěstování šalvěje úzkolisté je naprosto klíčový výběr správného stanoviště. Této rostlině se nejlépe daří na plném slunci, kde se její stonky nebudou vytahovat za světlem. Půda by měla být chudší, velmi dobře propustná, ideálně písčitá nebo štěrkovitá. Pokud máte na zahradě těžkou jílovitou zeminu, je nutné ji před výsadbou vylehčit velkým množstvím písku nebo drobného štěrku, jinak hrozí v zimě uhnívání kořenů. Sazenice vysazujte ve sponu přibližně 45 cm (cca 4 až 6 rostlin na metr čtvereční), což jim zajistí dostatek prostoru pro cirkulaci vzduchu a zároveň vytvoří pěkný zapojený porost, který se bude ve větru efektně vlnit.
Během sezóny je tato šalvěj velmi nenáročná a odpustí vám i delší období sucha. Zálivku vyžaduje pouze v prvních týdnech po výsadbě, než si sazenice plně ujmou. Později zalévejte jen velmi sporadicky. Velkým obloukem se vyhněte hnojení, zejména hnojivům s vysokým obsahem dusíku. V příliš výživné půdě rostlina ztrácí svou pevnost, stonky se nevzhledně kácí a kvetení může být slabší. Protože rostlina netrpí na škůdce ani choroby, nemusíte se bát složité ochrany, stačí ji nechat volně růst a užívat si její přirozenou krásu.
Před příchodem zimy není nutné rostlinu složitě zakrývat, je plně mrazuvzdorná až do -23 °C (zóna 6a). Jediným nebezpečím je zimní vlhkost, proto je ona propustná půda tak důležitá. Pokud byste chtěli šalvěj pěstovat v nádobě, je to možné, ale volte květináč s odtokovým otvorem a na dno dejte vysokou vrstvu drenáže. Substrát namíchejte s pískem v poměru 1:1, aby voda rychle odtékala.

Calamint
An undemanding and modest perennial that blooms with a large number of tiny flowers. It blooms for a record-breaking length of time throughout late summer and autumn. It forms smaller, compact, airy bushes that release a minty-spicy scent. The thyme-like flowers attract bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It will look good among roses as well as in naturalistic steppe beds, perhaps with lower grasses. This calamint is generally more vigorous. It differs from other calamints with felted leaves by its record flowering length, stiff and shiny leaves, and also a larger number of flowers that do not form seeds and are therefore maximally durable. Sometimes sold under the cultivar name 'Triumphator'.

The Czech Perennial Association chose autumn Anemones as the perennial of the season for 2022. They last 7 days in a vase. Whirlwind is a historical variety bred in 1887 in the USA. It has a semi-double pure white flower, often with inner twisted petals, and compact, strictly upright growth. The flowers are very durable.
