Plant the Frisado curly parsley seedling in a sunny location, or potentially in light partial shade. It will thrive best in permeable, humus-rich, loamy soil that is well-worked. When planting, remember the rule of crop rotation and do not put the seedling in a place where other parsley or root vegetables have grown in previous years. Maintain the recommended planting spacing of approximately forty centimeters, which corresponds to six to eight plants per square meter. This generous space will ensure excellent air circulation, thanks to which the leaves will remain in perfect condition. Although this variety is completely free of pests and diseases, an airy location will only benefit it. After planting directly into the garden bed, water the seedling thoroughly.
Parsley requires moderate watering, so keep the soil pleasantly moist, but never permanently waterlogged. For rich leaf growth, it is ideal to enrich the soil with high-quality compost before planting, thanks to which it will have enough nutrients. During the season, it is then not necessary to fertilize the plant continuously. Crucial for maintaining vitality is regular harvesting, which acts as a natural pruning and quickly supports the formation of new young shoots. Always cut the leaves gradually and make sure not to cut them too low to the ground, as the seedling needs enough strength for quick regeneration. Moreover, green curly leaves look very decorative, and you can also use them as an unconventional green filler for summer bouquets.
Customers often ask if it is possible to grow this plant in containers. Frisado parsley is ideal for growing in a flowerpot or spacious window box. Choose a container with drainage holes at the bottom so that excess water can flow away freely, and use high-quality humus substrate mixed with a little sand for better permeability. On the balcony, choose a bright spot protected from the strongest midday heat. In garden beds, on the other hand, it works great as a companion plant. It gets along excellently with radishes, is friendly with edible perennials, and gardeners even claim that its presence naturally enhances the scent of surrounding roses.
This plant, growing to a height of thirty to fifty centimeters, will pleasantly surprise you with its tremendous hardiness. It handles frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees without trouble, so it does not need any special winter protection in the garden bed and will offer you a beautiful winter effect. You can often clear away fresh leaves even from under the snow. By its nature, parsley is a biennial plant. In the first year after planting the seedling, you can look forward to a rich flood of curly leaves. In the second year, during June and July, it will bloom with tiny, pure white flowers that magically attract pollinators, produce seeds, and its life cycle will subsequently close.
