Cultivation
Dobromysl obecná, známá také jako oregano, je naprosto nenáročná trvalka ideální pro začátečníky. Jelikož pochází z prosluněných strání, nejlépe se jí bude dařit na plném slunci a v sušších podmínkách. Zásadní je pro ni dobře propustná a písčitá půda. Nevyžaduje na živiny bohatý substrát, naopak – v chudší půdě se mnohem lépe rozvine její typické silné aroma, které tolik milujeme v italské kuchyni. Pokud máte na zahradě těžkou nebo jílovitou půdu, doporučujeme do ní před výsadbou přimíchat dostatek písku a štěrku pro zajištění správné drenáže.
Sazenici, kterou od nás obdržíte v květináči, můžete vysadit rovnou na trvalkový záhon, do bylinkové spirály nebo skalky. Dodržujte spon zhruba 30 centimetrů, což odpovídá přibližně jedenácti rostlinám na metr čtvereční. Tento rozestup zajistí dostatečnou cirkulaci vzduchu kolem listů, i když dobromysl naštěstí vůbec netrpí na žádné choroby ani škůdce. Rostlina vytvoří úhledný keřík o výšce 30 až 60 centimetrů. Hned po výsadbě sazenici přiměřeně zalijte, ale jakmile dobře prokoření, stane se velmi odolnou vůči suchu a zálivka jí bude stačit jen v obdobích dlouhotrvajícího letního sucha.
Během sezóny nevyžaduje dobromysl téměř žádnou speciální péči a určitě byste se měli vyhnout zbytečnému hnojení. Umělá hnojiva totiž způsobují bujný růst na úkor vonných silic. Od července do září se můžete těšit na bohatou záplavu drobných růžových květů. Ty z vaší zahrady vytvoří doslova magnet pro včely, motýly a další užitečné opylovače. Pokud chcete podpořit neustálý růst nových, svěžích lístků pro vaše kulinářské experimenty a zároveň udržet pěkný kompaktní tvar keříku, můžete rostlinu po odkvětu lehce zastřihnout. Radikálnější zpětný řez suchých stonků pak proveďte až na jaře před rašením.
Nemusíte se bát ani přezimování. Kultivar Supreme je vysoce mrazuvzdorný a bez potíží zvládne teploty klesající až k -28 °C, takže nepotřebuje žádnou zimní ochranu. Velmi oblíbené je také pěstování v nádobách a truhlících na balkonech či terasách. Pokud se rozhodnete pro květináč, zajistěte, aby měl na dně odtokové otvory a použijte lehký substrát smíchaný s pískem. Zde si dejte pozor pouze na přemokření, které by mohlo vést k uhnívání kořenů. V zimě pak květináč raději přisuňte ke stěně domu, abyste kořenový bal ochránili před úplným promrznutím.

Mateřídouška Coccineus je drobná, ale nepřehlédnutelná trvalka, která do zahrady vnese nádhernou vůni a záplavu barev. Ve volné přírodě roste na slunných a suchých stráních, skalách a písčitých místech, proto i u vás na zahradě ocení podobné podmínky. Nejlépe se jí daří na plném slunci v dobře propustné a chudší písčité půdě. Je to naprosto nenáročná rostlina, kterou bez obav zvládnou i začátečníci. Nevyžaduje téměř žádnou zálivku, netrpí na choroby ani škůdce a bez problémů odolává i silným mrazům až do minus osmadvaceti stupňů. Tato plazivá rostlinka dorůstá výšky pouhých pět až deset centimetrů a rychle vytváří husté zelené polštáře. Od června do srpna se kultivar Coccineus halí do nápadných karmínově růžových květů, které intenzivně voní. Jde o obrovské lákadlo pro včely, čmeláky a motýly, kterým poskytuje bohatou pastvu. Skvěle se hodí do skalek, suchých zídek, koryt nebo jako voňavá obruba slunných záhonů a chodníčků. Obdržíte od nás vzrostlou sazenici v květináči, kterou stačí jen přesadit rovnou na vybrané místo. Květy a aromatické lístky této mateřídoušky jsou navíc jedlé. Výborně poslouží v kuchyni při dochucování letních pokrmů, přípravě bylinkových čajů nebo jako jedlá dekorace na talíři. Ačkoli to pro svou malou výšku není typická rostlina k řezu do velkých váz, drobné voňavé snítky můžete přidat do malých letních kytiček nebo je usušit, protože si i po zaschnutí dlouho uchovávají své nezaměnitelné aroma.
