Cultivation
Pro úspěšné začlenění plamenky Phlox divaricata do vaší zahrady je klíčový výběr správného místa, které bude simulovat podrost v lese. Vyhněte se přímému polednímu úpalu a zvolte stanoviště v polostínu či lehkém stínu, kde bude rostlina chráněna před vysušujícím sluncem. Půda by měla být kyprá, humózní a hlinitá, ideálně obohacená o rozložené listí nebo kompost, což pomůže udržet potřebnou vlhkost u kořenů. Sazenice vysazujte tak, aby kořenový bal byl v rovině s okolním terénem, a dodržujte rozestupy okolo 30 cm. Tím zajistíte rostlinám dostatek prostoru pro cirkulaci vzduchu, ačkoli se časem rozrostou do půvabných koberců. Je to rostlina dlouhověká, která na jednom místě vydrží mnoho let bez nutnosti častého přesazování.
Zálivka je nejdůležitější v první polovině roku. V období před kvetením a během něj (duben až květen) je nutné udržovat půdu rovnoměrně vlhkou, aby se květy mohly plně vyvinout a rostlina nezaschla. Přihnojování není nezbytně nutné, pokud máte kvalitní půdu, ale lehká dávka organického hnojiva na začátku jara podpoří vitalitu a násadu květů. Po odkvětu se rostlina zatahuje do klidovějšího režimu a v létě toleruje i o něco sušší podmínky, což je pro zahradníka velmi pohodlné. Pokud se vám zdá trs po odkvětu nevzhledný nebo příliš vytáhlý, proveďte zpětný řez, kterým rostlinu zmladíte a připravíte na další sezónu v plné síle.
Zatímco choroby se tomuto druhu floxu vyhýbají a je zcela bez chorob, velkým nepřítelem mohou být slimáci, kteří dokážou zdecimovat mladé výhony. Pravidelná kontrola stanoviště, zejména po dešti, je proto na místě. Rostlina je plně mrazuvzdorná až do -34 °C, takže speciální zimní ochrana není nutná, spadané listí ze stromů jí naopak poslouží jako přirozený kryt a zdroj humusu. Pokud zvažujete pěstování v květináči, je to skvělá volba pro stinné balkony či terasy. V takovém případě ale musíte být velmi pečliví se zálivkou, protože substrát v nádobě vysychá rychleji než volná půda. Květy May Breeze jsou vhodné k řezu do menších jarních kytic, kde vynikne jejich jemná vůně a hvězdicovitý tvar, a navíc lákají včely a další užitečné opylovače.
