Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials nearby that, on the contrary, sprout later and can draw attention during the poppy's dormant period. Jacob's Ladder is a native wild perennial cultivated in gardens as an ornamental plant since the 16th century. It has individual leaves arranged in a strikingly regular pattern, hence its common name Jacob's Ladder. Harvest when about a third of the flowers are open. It lasts 7 to 10 days in a vase. The 'White Pearl' cultivar has pure white flowers with yellow stamens.

The Chain Plant is a native plant of the eastern regions of North America, where it grows on riverbanks and in moist meadows. It forms upright, bushy clumps that spread into the surroundings via root suckers. The flowers have the shape of a slender spike with four rows of tubular flowers and resemble snapdragon flowers. This perennial scabious grows wild on mountain meadows and rocky slopes of the Caucasus, northern Iran, and Turkey. In gardens, it is grown for its charming large bowl-shaped flowers. Garden cultivars of goldenrod are attractive and undemanding perennials bred from native North American wild species. Unlike their wild counterparts, they are not invasive and do not spread uncontrollably in garden beds. They are specially bred for cutting, which is why they are relatively tall, grow upright, and bloom profusely. We can harvest both freshly bloomed plants and stems with buds for bouquets. They last 10 days in a vase. In garden beds, they are an indispensable feast for bees. Moonlight Glory is our lightest milky white goldenrod. Its elegant shade combines well with other perennials.

A lesser-known species of yarrow has dark green, shiny, serrated-lobed leaves that remain attractive throughout the growing season, with sweetly pink flowers that are larger than those of common yarrow. Lasts 10 days in a vase.
