Paeonia

Peony Blush Queen

Peonies are valuable in gardens for their large and impressive flowers. They are long-lived perennials for patient gardeners. It takes them several years to grow to full beauty and for you to see abundant flowering. Therefore, a blooming peony in the very first year after planting is more of an exception, certainly not the rule. Besides time, it needs the right conditions to flower. Check out our growing guide. Herbaceous garden peonies are one of the longest-bred garden plants, and most cultivars originate from Chinese and medicinal peonies, which have long been part of monastery gardens. Today, we combine them with perennials, grasses, and bulbs. However, we always give them plenty of space in the flowerbed. Blush Queen blooms abundantly and reliably. The flower color is a mix of three shades. It transitions from light pink, through cream, to white. Potted peonies can be planted from spring to autumn. Show full description

Hellebore Double Ellen Picotee, Loukykvět

Helleborus orientalis

Hellebores are evergreen perennials that form slowly spreading clumps of leathery, dark green leaves. The stems usually carry four to five flowers. They bloom very early, as early as late winter and early spring. They can be used in a vase only after conspicuous seed pods form in the center of the flower and the flower matures. Picked earlier, they tend to wilt and the stems cannot hold the flower upright. All parts of the plant are poisonous. The semi-double flowers of the Double Ellen Picotee hellebore take on white and light pink hues with a purplish-burgundy edging.

Checkerbloom Wine Red, Loukykvět

It is an undemanding plant that even beginners can manage. You will receive a mature potted seedling from us, which you just need to transplant into the flowerbed. Campion, Loukykvět

Lychnis coronaria

Rose campion is a striking perennial that will bring a bold color contrast and a unique texture to the garden. It originally comes from the sunny and dry regions of southern Europe and Asia, where it grows on rocky and poor soils. Thanks to this, it is exceptionally undemanding and will handle even harsh frosts without problems here. It forms clumps with silver, softly felted stems and gray-green leaves that look decorative even before blooming. During June and July, vibrant fuchsia-pink to purple flowers appear on the stems. Rose campion blooms for a very long time, as a new little flower blooms every day and replaces the previous one. It is a short-lived perennial, but in a suitable location, it easily self-seeds. It does not suffer from any diseases or pests, which will be appreciated especially by beginner growers. It is perfectly suited for cutting into summer bouquets.

Delphinium Highlander Moonlight, Loukykvět

Delphinium elatum

Larkspurs are a classic and at the same time a dominant feature among flower bed perennials. We often see them in the company of roses and peonies. To stand out well, they need to be given enough space and fertilization should not be forgotten. We can enjoy their beauty in flower beds, bouquets, and even try drying; the flowers retain their rich color well. They last 7 days in a vase; they are sensitive to ethylene released from ripening fruit. The 'Highlander' series comes from new Scottish breeding. It expands the color range and brings novel shapes. The flowers are incredibly full and individual petals are ruffled, which further reinforces the impression of fullness. They do not form seeds and should therefore be all the more vital. The flower is full, light purple with a greenish center.

Meadowsweet Plena, Loukykvět

Filipendula vulgaris

Dropwort 'Plena' is a drought-tolerant native perennial that naturally handles even very dry habitats thanks to its tuberously thickened roots. It forms basal rosettes of finely divided leaves that resemble ferns and decorate the flower bed even when the plant is not currently in bloom. Floristically valuable are its fragrant milky-white inflorescences, which tower at the tops of the stems in June and July. Interesting are the buds themselves, looking like tiny pearls, as well as the post-bloom stage in the form of small stars. In a vase, they last about a week and perfectly complement meadow bouquets. The 'Plena' variety boasts flowers that are significantly richer and more double than the basic species, while maintaining its natural hardiness and undemanding nature.

Black Mullein, Loukykvět

Verbascum nigrum var. album

Dark mullein is a native perennial and a popular medicinal herb that will bring a piece of unbridled nature into your garden. Its natural home is found on sunny slopes, embankments, and roadsides, which is why it thrives best in our gardens in full sun, in well-drained and rather sandy soil. It can handle longer periods of drought and easily survives frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees. It forms a neat basal rosette of dark green leaves, from which sturdy stems over a meter tall emerge in May and June. While the original wild species blooms yellow, this exceptional var. album form boasts pure white flowers cleverly decorated with purple and finely hairy stamens. These flowers act literally as a magnet for bees and other beneficial pollinators. Although it is a short-lived perennial, if it likes it at your place, it will reliably take care of new seedlings and grow in the same spot in the following years. In a flowerbed, it perfectly complements drought-tolerant grasses and fits beautifully into naturally styled plantings. You can also confidently cut the sturdy, tall flower stems for a vase, where they will look stunning for several days, and they serve as an unconventional element in summer bouquets. Mullein does not require any complicated care, and generally does not suffer from pests or diseases, so even complete beginners can grow it without any trouble.

Great Burnet, Loukykvět
Perennial of the Season 2026

Sanguisorba officinalis

Great burnet is a native meadow plant that naturally grows in wet meadows, where it forms dense clumps of dark green pinnate leaves. This perennial is absolutely indispensable for the life cycle of the rare scarce large blue butterfly, which it will reliably attract to your garden with its flowers. In perennial beds, it stands out especially in naturalistic compositions, where in combination with ornamental grasses it creates an airy and light effect. The inflorescences are also an excellent material for florists, adding an unusual structure and color accent to bouquets, while staying fresh for seven to ten days in a vase. If you don't harvest them fresh, you can dry them for winter decorations, as they hold their shape for a long time.

Mint Eau de Cologne, Loukykvět
Fragrant

Mentha piperita

Eau de Cologne mint is an absolute specialty for all lovers of interesting scents. Its natural habitat is in a temperate climate, where it grows in moister meadows and on the banks of watercourses. In your garden, it will thus do best in the sun or partial shade in standard loamy and humous soil that retains moderate moisture. From us, you will get a nicely grown seedling in a pot, which you just need to transplant straight into the flowerbed. It is an exceptionally hardy perennial that can easily handle even very severe frosts, requires no support, and does not suffer from common diseases. Only occasionally might the mint leaf beetle appear. The Eau de Cologne cultivar attracts attention with its dark green leaves with a bronze or purple edge and, from July to September, also with its purple-pink flowers, which are a huge magnet for pollinators. Although both the leaves and flowers are edible, you will use this mint more for aromatherapy than in the kitchen. It is suitable for baths, has repellent effects, and perfectly complements cut summer bouquets.

Geum Mango Lassi, Loukykvět

Geum rivale

Richly blooming geums are a reliable choice for anyone looking for low-maintenance beauty in warm tones. The original plants of this species seek out the damper environments of meadows and light forests, which makes them very adaptable perennials. They will thrive best in both sun and partial shade if you provide them with well-drained loamy soil that retains slight moisture. Simply plant the prepared seedling straight into the flowerbed after unpacking, spacing them thirty centimeters apart. The clumps of leaves will gradually intertwine and create a natural ground cover. The 'Mango Lassi' variety is exceptional with its ruffled apricot flowers that appear from spring until the first days of autumn. The radiant and moreover edible blooms act as a valuable food source for bees and butterflies. The short-lived geum bravely resists frosts, does not suffer from diseases or pests, and does not need support, so it will bring joy even to complete beginners. In a vase, it stays fresh for about seven days. We do not recommend drying it, but the plant fully compensates for this with its basal leaves, which provide an engaging winter effect in the flowerbed.

Cultivation

GENERAL INFO

Peony roots are living material and therefore we store them under specific conditions — we must ensure sufficient moisture for the roots to prevent excessive drying out. However, when stored in damp conditions, slight surface mold may appear; this is a cosmetic phenomenon that does not affect subsequent growth. We pack roots just before shipping so that their storage time in closed packaging is as short as possible.

PLANTING

Do not delay planting peonies so that their roots do not dry out too much during storage; as we wrote, storage is more demanding. When planting, it is necessary to pay attention to the correct planting depth and not to "drown" the plants, because then they would not bloom. Plant so that after watering, the buds of the shoots protrude slightly with their tips above the surface of the substrate. The lowest buds should be a maximum of 2-3 centimeters below the surface. The planting hole should be twice as wide and deeper than the peony root. Count on the soil settling after watering. If you plant late in the autumn, you can cover new plants with brushwood before winter.

LOCATION

Peonies bloom best in a sunny spot. However, they are quite adaptable and can thrive even in semi-shaded positions, but they need at least 6 hours of sunshine for abundant flowering. All peonies need enough space around them; they do not like competition from shrubs or hedges. You should reserve an area of one square meter for a peony, where even other vigorously growing perennials will not compete with them.

SOIL CONDITIONS

Peonies need permeable, loamy, and nutrient-rich garden soil that retains adequate moisture well. They do not tolerate waterlogging in soil that is too heavy.

WATERING

Newly planted peonies need watering especially during the first spring during dry periods. Mature peonies will be more resilient, and watering will come in handy only in the case of a very dry spring and early summer. After flowering, they usually do not have trouble with summer drought.

FERTILIZING

Peonies need plenty of nutrients; organic fertilizer rich in potassium is suitable in spring. Conversely, beware of excessive amounts of nitrogen. Plants would then be more susceptible to fungal diseases. In autumn, you can spread a centimeter-thin layer of mature compost around the plant.

DISEASE PREVENTION

Maintain sufficient distance when planting so that air circulates well between plants. Regularly remove dead flowers, remove any diseased leaves. These must not be put on the compost but thrown away with ordinary household waste.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE

In the first years after planting, we remove side buds so that the plants strengthen. In late autumn, you can remove dead leaves. Count on support for the plants; all herbaceous peonies need it. Watch out for spring frosts, especially if they follow a mild winter. Sprouted flower buds can tolerate temperatures dropping to -3°C; at lower temperatures, they die. In this case, protect peonies with non-woven fabric.

(DO NOT) TRANSPLANT

Choose the location well; peonies prefer undisturbed growth without transplanting. This is possible with older plants, which we divide during the process so that each part has three to seven buds. The most suitable period is from September to October.

The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.

Peony Karl Rosenfield, Loukykvět
New

Paeonia

The peony **Karl Rosenfield** is a proven classic that has been grown since 1908. It was bred in the USA and boasts radiantly rich red, double flowers. While the outer petals are large, those in the middle of the flower captivate with their waviness and delicate frilling. The plant does not smell, but stands out with reliability and rich blooming on firm and long stems. These herbaceous peonies, whose ancestors (Chinese and common peonies) already decorated old monastery gardens, are ideal long-lived perennials. However, they require patience – it takes several years before the plant matures into full beauty. Blooming right in the first year after planting is not the rule. For successful growth, it is crucial to ensure the right conditions for the plant according to the cultivation guide and to indulge it with plenty of space in the bed, whether it grows independently, or in combination with grasses and bulbous plants. You can plant potted peonies during the whole season from spring to autumn.

Lady's mantle Irish Silk, Loukykvět

Alchemilla mollis

Alchemilla mollis, known as lady's mantle, is an indispensable perennial for anyone who wants to bring harmony and softness to the garden. Its home is the moister environments of mountain meadows and light forests, making it a very adaptable plant that will survive even severe frosts without problems in our climate. The 'Irish Silk' cultivar is prized for its vitality and abundant blooming, where clouds of tiny, yellow-green flowers float above clumps of gray-green leaves. It is precisely this neutral color that can work wonders in a flower bed – it softens overly sharp contrasts between other flowers and beautifully unifies the entire composition. Besides its ornamental function, lady's mantle also has practical uses. Thanks to its clumping growth and ability to quickly fill in, it is ideal for edging pathways or as an underplanting beneath taller shrubs and roses. Water droplets catch on its leaves, creating a magical spectacle in the garden. If you enjoy making bouquets, you will love lady's mantle as versatile filler greenery that matches almost anything. It will last beautiful for about ten days in a vase, and its inflorescences can also be easily dried without losing too much of their color or shape. Moreover, it is a magnet for pollinators, and its young leaves are even edible, so it also finds use in a natural kitchen.

Sea Holly, Loukykvět
For drying

Eryngium planum

Sea holly is an indispensable perennial for all lovers of naturally styled gardens. It earned its folk name - male fidelity - in times when it was used in herbal medicine as an aphrodisiac, and its roots were even candied as sweets in France and England. Today, however, you will appreciate it mainly for its low maintenance and unique appearance. Its home is on sunny hillsides and dry meadows, so even in our gardens, it will welcome well-drained, even poorer sandy soil and full sun. It produces upright, sturdy stems topped with blue-purple flowers with prickly bracts, which bring interesting structure and a silvery touch to the flowerbeds. It is literally a magnetic plant for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, who find a rich food source on it. Gaura Summer Breeze, Loukykvět

Gaura lindheimeri

The charming gaura comes from the sun-drenched plains of Texas and Louisiana and represents exactly the plant that can liven up any drought-tolerant planting. It is a naturally profusely blooming perennial that delights in full sun and well-drained, sandy, and nutrient-poor soil. You will receive from us an already grown seedling in a pot, which will quickly form a vigorous clump after being transplanted into the garden. From early summer until late autumn, it will delight you with a flood of tiny flowers in pure white and delicate pink tones. The flowers gently sway in the breeze and with their appearance resemble a flock of tiny butterflies, which also really like to land on the plant, as do bees and bumblebees. Although gaura is known as a short-lived perennial, thanks to its willing self-seeding, it will last for many years in your garden. Caring for it is completely undemanding, it is avoided by most diseases and pests, and it can handle frosts down to eighteen degrees below zero without any problems. It is often used in mixed borders, where it beautifully softens the overall impression, and perfectly matches various types of ornamental grasses. The Summer Breeze variety is popular for its strong and healthy growth as well as its exceptionally generous set of flowers, which grow to about one meter. If you like to create your own bouquets, do not hesitate to cut gaura for a vase. Harvesting is best done the moment the first small flowers on the stem begin to open. These delicate flowers are not suitable for drying into dried arrangements, but they will beautifully lighten up fresh bouquets.
