The 'Pink Spike' cultivar stands out primarily for its deeply lobed leaves, which play with dark shades of burgundy, purple, and bronze. While most of the garden slowly loses its breath at the end of summer, bugbane is just showing its best from August to October. Towering above the dark leaves are long inflorescences composed of tiny white and light pink flowers. These brush-like inflorescences also smell pleasant and act as a reliable magnet for bees and other pollinators. It is a completely undemanding plant that easily handles even bitter frosts dropping to minus thirty-four degrees. Common diseases naturally avoid it and it does not suffer from pests.
