Papaver orientale
Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding
The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

Vaši novou, plně zakořeněnou sazenici čínské pažitky můžete vysadit ven na zahradu prakticky kdykoliv během hlavní vegetační sezóny. Pro její úspěšné pěstování vyberte slunné nebo jen částečně zastíněné stanoviště, kde bude mít dostatek světla pro bohaté kvetení. Pažitka nejlépe poroste v dostatečně výživné, ale ne čerstvě pohnojené, kypré hlinitopísčité půdě, která je dobře propustná. Určitě se vyvarujte sázení do těžkých, jílovitých a trvale přemokřených zemin. Rostlina tvoří úhledné zelené trsy dorůstající do výšky kolem půl metru, které se skvěle hodí do bylinkových spirál, smíšených trvalkových záhonů, ale výborně poslouží i jako velmi praktická obruba zahradních cestiček.
Aby se vaše bylinka měla co nejlépe a přinášela vám bohatou úrodu, přinášíme několik praktických tipů pro její bezproblémovou údržbu. Sazenice umisťujte do vzdálenosti zhruba 25 cm od sebe. Tento doporučený spon zajistí dostatek místa pro přirozené rozrůstání kořenů a zamezí nepříjemnému zapařování listů. Udržujte jen mírnou vlhkost, zálivka by sice měla být pravidelná, ale půda musí mezi každým zaléváním mírně proschnout. Přihnojování během sezóny není nutné. Tato úžasná trvalka je pro začátečníky jako stvořená, protože je zcela imunní vůči běžným chorobám a vyhýbají se jí i nepříjemní škůdci. Sazenice navíc naprosto skvěle prospívá i v prostorném květináči na balkoně, jen nezapomeňte na kvalitní drenážní vrstvu na dně nádoby, aby citlivé kořeny nikdy nestály ve vodě.
Během pozdního léta, obvykle od srpna do konce října, pažitka vykvétá krásnými a silně aromatickými bílými květy. Abyste rostlinu udrželi maximálně vitální a zajistili si stálý přísun křehkých listů do vaší kuchyně, doporučujeme je pravidelně seřezávat zhruba pět centimetrů nad povrchem země. Tím podpoříte neustálou obnovu a omlazení celého trsu. S blížící se zimou rostlina přirozeně zatáhne veškeré živiny do kořenového systému a její nadzemní část uschne. Vzhledem k její naprosto vynikající mrazuvzdornosti až do -23 °C ji můžete nechat bez sebemenších obav přezimovat přímo na záhonu bez jakékoliv speciální zimní ochrany. Zaschlé staré listy pak doporučujeme opatrně odstranit až v předjaří, těsně předtím, než se začnou objevovat zbrusu nové svěže zelené výhonky.
