Při sázení do nádoby nikdy nezapomeňte na silnou drenážní vrstvu z hrubšího štěrku nebo keramzitu, aby přebytečná voda mohla vždy volně odtékat. Zálivku aplikujte jen střídmě, tato vytrvalá rostlina má raději delší období sucha než stálou vlhkost. Přihnojování není nutné, rozmarýnu vyhovují spíše skromnější podmínky. Pro podporu bohatého větvení a udržení výšky mezi 50 a 100 cm je prospěšné průběžné zaštipování mladých výhonků. Jakmile odkvete, proveďte zpětný řez, čímž zabráníte vyholování spodních větví a udržíte sazenici kompaktní.
Ačkoliv si rozmarýn zachovává své tmavě zelené až stříbřitě zelené listy po celý rok a nabízí tak krásný zimní efekt, jeho mrazuvzdornost končí přibližně na -10 °C. Venkovní pěstování přes zimu je proto možné jen na velmi chráněných místech a vyžaduje pečlivou ochranu. Bezpečnější je přenést rostlinu v nádobě do světlé a chladné chodby, kde se teplota pohybuje mezi 5 a 8 °C. Během zimního odpočinku zalévejte jen symbolicky a pravidelně kontrolujte listy.
