Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) originates from the Mediterranean region and North Africa, where it grows wild in dry, rocky, fully sun-exposed habitats. In the Mediterranean, it is cultivated for its aromatic essential oil and as an ornamental plant used for slope stabilization and hedges. In our climate, we most often grow it as a potted plant that can be moved indoors, or for hardier varieties, we can try growing it directly in a protected garden bed. Barbecue is an upright growing cultivar with narrower, distinctly aromatic leaves.

Oregano (Origanum vulgare) is an ancient medicinal plant that, in modern gardens, works perfectly as a reliable partner in drought-tolerant perennial communities. Its culinary use is widely known, and Italian cuisine lovers especially cannot do without it. In aromatherapy, it is considered the essence of good mood and harmony. Its aromatic leaves are an indispensable part of Italian cuisine. The Supreme variety is often rated as one of the most aromatic.

Phlomis is a valuable structural perennial originating from the Greek islands and Turkey. It's also known as Jerusalem sage. In plantings, it's used as a groundcover and can even be successfully grown under trees. Both the flowers and the stems with their impressive fruits are suitable for cutting. If left untrimmed in autumn, they will adorn beds throughout winter, as will the dense carpet of leaves. Phlomis is also attractive to pollinators.

Euphorbias are suitable for cultivation in sunny gravel beds. They form bushy, hemispherical clumps with delicate narrow grey-green leaves on slender stems. They bloom later than other euphorbias and then flower for a very long time, remaining vibrantly green until autumn.

Catmints are ideal companions for roses, suitable for natural-style gardens and, the smaller varieties, for window boxes and pots. Some of them are an irresistible attraction for cats, due to the hallucinogen nepetalactone. This should be present in the highest degree in the species Nepeta cataria. Conversely, lemon-scented catmints reportedly do not attract cats. The botanical name Nepeta probably comes from the ancient Etruscan city of Nepet - Nepi in today's Italian province of Viterbo, where the plant was once cultivated. The faassenii group is characterized by vigorous upright growth, delicate foliage, and long stems suitable for cutting. 'Six Hills Giant' has a slightly lighter flower color than 'Walker's Low'. It grows in airy clumps and flowers very profusely. Long stems suitable for cutting.

Baptisia originates from North America, belongs to the pea family (Fabaceae), and visually resembles lupine – the bigleaf lupine. In addition to its blue flowers, the large pods that adorn the plant long after flowering are also interesting. North American Indians used baptisia roots to disinfect wounds and reduce fever, and the leaves for dyeing fabrics. Patience is key with baptisia; it takes some time to fully establish and develop a robust root system adapted to survive long periods of drought and fires. Then it is very long-lived. It was chosen as the Perennial of the Year for the 2019 season.

Brunnera is a long-lived perennial native to the mountain meadows and forests of the Caucasus. It is interesting not only when in bloom. The leaves are large, heart-shaped, and light green. They form a contrasting background for the delicate and small flowers that appear above the carpet of leaves from April to May. It sprouts early and retracts late, making it a valuable groundcover perennial.

Tento druh kosatce pochází prapůvodně zřejmě ze Středozemí. Odedávna velmi oblíbená okrasná zahradní rostlina, vyšlechtěná do mnoha kultivarů. Údajně je pěstovali už Keltové, oblíbený byl ve středověku a stal se heraldickou rostlinou. Ve váze vydrží 3–7 dní. Tento kultivar má tmavé až černofialové květy s mandarinkově zbarvenými kartáčky.
